  • 134 holes drilled as part of a 200-hole scandium exploration program
  • Assay results expected late April 2025
  • Drilling aligns with tightening global scandium supply

Rimfire Pacific Mining (ASX:RIM) continues to advance its scandium-focused drilling campaign at the Currajong Prospect, part of the broader Fifield Scandium District in New South Wales. The company has now completed 134 air core drill holes, totaling 4,703 metres, marking significant progress towards its 200-hole target.

Drilling has intersected a range of weathered rock types, including ultramafic pyroxenite—considered highly prospective for scandium mineralisation. Three batches of collected samples, comprising 520 in total, are currently undergoing laboratory analysis. An additional batch is also being prepared for submission in the coming week, with initial assay results expected by late April 2025.

This drilling program is gaining attention due to the strategic importance of scandium, especially in light of recent geopolitical shifts. With China currently controlling 67% of primary global scandium feedstock and refining around 90% of the world’s supply, new export restrictions have created a potential choke point for industries reliant on this critical mineral. Countries such as the United States, which utilise scandium in defence technologies and high-performance alloys, are particularly affected by these supply limitations.

Against this backdrop, Rimfire Pacific Mining (RIM) is positioning the Fifield Scandium District as a vital source of stable, long-term scandium supply for Western markets. The Currajong Prospect forms part of the company's broader strategy to identify and develop a strong pipeline of scandium targets across the region. This aligns with broader global trends aiming to diversify critical mineral sources away from dominant single-nation control.

The company sees the current drilling activity not just as a routine exploration exercise but as a timely opportunity to reinforce the strategic value of its landholdings. As assay results are received and analysed, further clarity is expected on the district’s potential to contribute meaningfully to global scandium supply chains.

Rimfire’s Managing Director, David Hutton, emphasized the importance of this timing, noting the company’s progress is unfolding as global scandium supply faces disruption. The aim is to solidify the Fifield area’s role in offering a secure alternative source for this high-demand mineral, especially for applications in aerospace, clean energy, and national defence.

As exploration progresses, market observers will be watching closely for the upcoming assay data, which may further highlight the Currajong Prospect’s potential within this strategically significant metal space.
