Rimfire Pacific Mining (ASX:RIM) has commenced an extensive drilling campaign aimed at unlocking the scandium potential at the Currajong Prospect. This initiative marks the company's first dedicated scandium-focused exploration effort, reinforcing its commitment to developing critical mineral assets.
The drilling program encompasses approximately 200 holes, spanning up to 10,000 metres, within a 2.4-kilometre-long ultramafic belt. The project is expected to progress over the next two months, with drill samples being submitted at regular intervals to accelerate data analysis.
Encouraging Historical Data Supports Growth Potential
Previous drilling activities at Currajong have yielded promising scandium results, highlighting the site’s potential for substantial mineralization. Notable findings include a 32-metre intercept with scandium concentrations reaching 287 parts per million (ppm), alongside several other high-grade assays. These historic results bolster confidence in the current drilling efforts, with the potential to define a maiden scandium Mineral Resource.
If successful, the Currajong Prospect could significantly contribute to Rimfire Pacific Mining’s broader scandium resource base, which already includes assets at Melrose and Murga North, as well as the Murga Exploration Target. The company’s vision is to establish a globally recognized scandium resource at Fifield, leveraging its extensive portfolio of critical mineral projects.
Leadership’s Perspective on the Exploration Initiative
David Hutton, Managing Director and CEO of Rimfire Pacific Mining, expressed enthusiasm about the program, highlighting the significance of this exploration phase in strengthening the company’s scandium portfolio. He emphasized that Currajong represents a high-grade scandium opportunity, which, in combination with existing resources, could contribute to a robust scandium supply base.
Regular dispatches of drill samples throughout the project will ensure a steady flow of exploration data, with updates anticipated as drilling progresses. This program positions Rimfire Pacific Mining for potential growth in the scandium market, aligning with the increasing demand for critical minerals globally.
With a focus on scalability and resource development, this initiative could open new opportunities for the company, reinforcing its standing as a key player in the scandium sector.
