Polymetals Resources (ASX:POL) is advancing towards becoming a prominent silver and zinc producer in Australia, with its flagship Endeavor Mine positioned in the mineral-rich Cobar Basin, New South Wales. The mine, previously on care and maintenance, is being revitalized under the company's leadership, marking a significant shift in its operations and future potential.
Transformative Progress in 2024
The year 2024 proved transformative for Polymetals Resources as the company achieved several milestones. It secured 100% ownership of the Endeavor Mine, finalized a robust mine plan, and gained the necessary financial backing for the restart of operations. A notable accomplishment included expanding the team from just six members to 60, with plans to further increase the workforce to 230 by next year.
The strategic restructuring of the mine's royalty agreement was another landmark, reducing a 100% silver streaming royalty to a more manageable 4% net smelter return (NSR) over silver, lead, and zinc. This adjustment unlocked new opportunities, ensuring a sustainable future for the mine.
Operational Updates and Workforce Growth
Polymetals Resources is now executing its 10-year mine plan, with production anticipated to commence in 2025. The company continues to enhance its workforce and infrastructure at the Endeavor Mine. General Manager Matt Gill emphasized the rapid recruitment and site preparation efforts, which include reactivating surface infrastructure and processing plants. The arrival of advanced underground equipment further underscores the company's progress toward operational readiness.
Historic Significance of Endeavor Mine
Situated in the prolific Cobar Basin, the high-grade Endeavor silver-zinc-lead mine operated for 38 years before being placed on care and maintenance in 2020. During its operational years, the mine processed 32 million tonnes of ore, yielding over A$18 billion worth of saleable metal concentrates based on today’s prices.
Exploration and Future Plans
Looking forward to 2025, Polymetals Resources plans to ramp up exploration efforts in and around the mine. The drilling program is set to commence in January, with additional regional and near-mine exploration campaigns scheduled through 2026. These efforts are expected to drive organic growth and extend the mine's life.
With its strategic milestones and a clear path to production, Polymetals Resources is well-positioned to reestablish Endeavor Mine as a leading silver and zinc operation, benefitting stakeholders and the regional mining community.
