Perpetual's Raptor Takes Off Following Confirmation as an Ionic-Hosted Rare Earths Site

Highlights

  • Confirmation of ionic adsorption clay (IAC) mineralization at the Raptor project.
  • Magnet rare earth elements (REE) recoveries of up to 94%.
  • Comparative advantage to nearby projects with low impurity levels.

Perpetual Resources (ASX:PEC) has announced significant findings from its metallurgical testing at the Raptor project in the Minas Gerais state of Brazil. Recent tests have confirmed the presence of rare earth elements (REE) mineralization as ionic adsorption clay (IAC), known for facilitating low-cost, high-margin operations due to their simple mining and processing techniques.

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation conducted tests yielding magnet REE recoveries as high as 94%. Such recoveries are indicative of the project's potential to perform at par with, or even exceed, the nearby Meteoric Resources (ASX:MEI) Caldeira project. The promising results support the attractiveness of Raptor's REE composition, particularly with the presence of magnet rare elements such as neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) and dysprosium-terbium (DyTb).

The executive chairman, Julian Babarczy, expressed optimism over the metallurgical outcomes, highlighting the favorable metallurgy and low impurity levels of the Raptor project. In light of these successes, the company plans further exploration through a Phase 2 drill program, which will target the depth extension of the high-grade zones while exploring underdeveloped areas.

In-depth analysis of the samples revealed moderate to high quantities of desorbable REEs, with magnet REEs achieving an average recovery rate of 69%. The selective recovery of high-value magnet REEs is bolstered by the low cerium recovery rate, which benefits cost-efficiency in downstream processing.

Located within the Poços de Caldas Alkaline Complex, the Raptor project covers four licenses across 318 hectares. This region has a history of REE mineralization within nepheline syenite and related alkaline intrusives. Initial drilling has returned promising assays, and future efforts aim to further delineate REE resources compliant with JORC standards.

This development represents a step forward for Perpetual Resources, enhancing the appeal of its asset portfolio in a prime jurisdiction. The company is set to pursue further metallurgical studies, supporting its strategic goal of unlocking the full potential of the Raptor project.
