- Alignment with Canada’s Critical Minerals Strategy.
Metals Australia Ltd (ASX:MLS) recently announced the completion of an extensive drilling program at the Lac Carheil Graphite Project located in Quebec, Canada. This significant achievement involved the addition of 9,482 meters to the project, bringing the total drilling measurement to roughly 11,800 meters. This expansion has confirmed the continuity of graphite over a 2,300-meter strike length.
The latest drilling endeavor has uncovered approximately 4,000 meters of graphite-bearing core, significantly boosting the total estimated graphite intervals to 4,840 meters. This development is poised to enhance the already established Mineral Resource, which currently stands at 13.3 million tonnes with a content of 11.5% total-graphitic carbon (TGC). The expansion not only confirms the high potential of the Lac Carheil project but also promises to extend its operational lifespan and bolster its economic viability.
Paul Ferguson, CEO of Metals Australia, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the drilling program, highlighting the efficiency and productivity that exceeded expectations. Despite challenging cold weather conditions, the collaboration with Magnor Exploration and other drilling partners yielded excellent results. The successful completion of the drilling stages has infused the team with confidence, prompting an extension of the drilling program.
Looking forward, Metals Australia is diligently progressing towards detailed core logging and the analysis of assay results. A comprehensive update on the Mineral Resource is anticipated by the third quarter of 2025. In addition to these developments, the company is actively conducting environmental surveys and advancing pre-feasibility studies. These efforts are in line with the objectives of Canada’s Critical Minerals Strategy, aiming to bolster domestic supply chains for essential minerals in North America, particularly for the burgeoning battery manufacturing sector.
This strategic initiative not only underscores Metals Australia's commitment to sustainable and efficient resource extraction but also positions the company as a pivotal player in supporting the North American market's transition towards renewable energy solutions. The Lac Carheil project is set to play a critical role in this transformative era, promoting sustainable practices and contributing to the stability of global graphite supply.
