- Magnum Mining & Exploration (MGU) collaborates with Wickers Group for green technology development.
- The partnership integrates pulp, bio-chemicals, and green pig iron production.
- Focused on sustainable projects in Europe and North America over two years.
Magnum Mining & Exploration (ASX:MGU) has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Sweden-based Wickers Group to advance sustainable technology solutions. This collaboration aims to integrate cutting-edge Pulp and Paper plant technologies with HIsmelt technology, creating an eco-friendly production system for pulp, bio-chemicals, and green pig iron. The initiative seeks to maximize energy efficiency by utilizing excess steam generated from the HIsmelt process to power Pulp Plant operations.
A Game-Changing Partnership
The agreement, spanning two years, will focus on developing projects across Europe and North America. By combining Wickers' expertise in Pulp and Paper industry technologies with Magnum’s HIsmelt furnace technology, the partnership aims to enhance sustainable resource utilization.
HIsmelt technology is a breakthrough in ironmaking, known for its reduced carbon footprint. By integrating this with Wickers’ processes, the collaboration is expected to drive significant environmental and operational benefits. The Pulp Plant will convert pulp timber and forestry waste into valuable products like pulp, lumber, biochar, green fertilizers, bio-alcohol, proteins, and bio-CO2. Meanwhile, the biochar derived from this process will serve as a reductant for the HIsmelt furnace, enabling the smelting of iron ore and steel plant waste into green pig iron.
Industry Leaders on the Collaboration
Neil Goodman, Non-Executive Director of Magnum Mining & Exploration (MGU), emphasized the synergy between the two technologies. He highlighted that repurposing waste steam from the HIsmelt furnace to power the Pulp Plant aligns with the mission of creating a circular, sustainable industrial ecosystem.
Mikael Carlsson, CEO of Wickers Group, expressed enthusiasm about working alongside Magnum. He introduced the term ‘BioCombine’ to describe the integration of Pulp and Paper technology with HIsmelt, underscoring the importance of attracting investors and industry partners. The teams are already evaluating potential sites for the first BioCombine plant.
A Step Toward a Greener Future
This partnership reflects a commitment to sustainable innovation in industrial production. By aligning green energy solutions with metal and pulp production, the collaboration sets the stage for future advancements in eco-friendly manufacturing. With both companies actively engaging stakeholders, this initiative is poised to contribute to cleaner industrial practices globally.
As the project progresses, further developments in technology integration and site selection are expected, reinforcing the vision of a greener, more efficient industry.
