Highlights
- Lightning Minerals (L1M) plans extensive diamond drilling in Brazil’s Lithium Valley.
- Initial drilling targets include Esperança, Caraíbas, and Canabrava lithium projects.
- Work programs set for a strong start in early 2025 with pending exploration results.
Lightning Minerals (ASX:L1M) has unveiled an ambitious drilling program for early 2025 across its key lithium projects in Brazil’s renowned Lithium Valley, located in the Minas Gerais region. This move marks a pivotal step for the company in its pursuit of critical minerals, with drilling designed to explore high-priority lithium targets.
The company plans to drill approximately 3,500 metres of diamond core across multiple projects, starting with Esperança. Earlier exploration at Esperança identified lithium-bearing spodumene pegmatites with assays of up to 4.04% Li2O. These promising results lay the foundation for the initial drilling campaign aimed at further delineating the mineralization potential.
Drilling Targets
The first phase of drilling will begin at Esperança, where spodumene discoveries have already showcased significant lithium potential. Following this, the program will progress to the nearby Caraíbas project, which features a substantial lithium-in-soil anomaly extending two kilometres in length and 700 metres in width, with peak lithium assays reaching 239ppm.
Further exploration is also planned at the Canabrava project, where lithium-in-soil values of up to 113ppm have been recorded along a northwest-to-southeast trend. Geophysical surveys have highlighted strong signatures in the region, supporting its exploration prospectivity. Phase one soil sampling has been completed across all three project areas, with results expected to guide additional drill targets.
Strategic Exploration Initiatives
A clear drilling strategy has been established for 2025, with the following initial programs:
- Esperança Project: Up to 2,000 metres of drilling targeting lithium-bearing spodumene pegmatites.
- Caraíbas Project: Up to 1,500 metres of drilling focused on lithium anomalies over defined soil trends.
- Canabrava Project: Drill testing lithium-in-soil anomalism supported by pending infill sampling data.
Managing Director Alex Biggs emphasized the importance of the upcoming work program, highlighting the company’s rapid and efficient execution of its exploration strategy. He noted Brazil’s growing role in the global lithium supply chain and the region’s potential for further discoveries.
Strong Start to 2025
The upcoming diamond drilling programs are set to begin in the first quarter of 2025, following final site preparations and contractor appointments. Ground reconnaissance, pending soil assay results, and infill sampling will further refine drilling targets. Lightning Minerals (ASX:L1M) anticipates a busy and productive start to the year, driven by its focused exploration efforts in Brazil’s Lithium Valley.
