Highlights

  • Initiation of drilling at Thomson project targeting two significant copper-gold anomalies, F4 and Cut-B.
  • Exploration of more than a dozen geophysical targets in a vast and underexplored region.
  • Anticipated results from both new and historical assays to enhance discovery prospects.

Legacy Minerals (ASX:LGM) has launched drilling operations at its Thomson project in northwest New South Wales to explore promising gold-copper prospects. The company seeks to evaluate two substantial coincident magnetic and gravity anomalies denominated as F4 and Cut-B, which are part of a broader exploration initiative enveloping over 5,500 square kilometers of prospective land. These targets are seen as potential intrusion-related gold and copper systems, akin to well-known districts such as the Paterson Province.

Strategic Exploration in Untapped Territories

The Thomson project embodies a strategic endeavor in a largely underexplored and geodynamically rich setting. Legacy Minerals, as a pioneering player in this region, has started two deep drilling operations, each reaching 600 meters, to unlock the mineral wealth potentially harbored within these geophysical features. Supporting these activities, the company has submitted over 1,000 meters of previously unsampled drill core for assay, with results anticipated between late March and early April.

Utilizing Advanced Geological Techniques

Completion of recent gravity and ambient noise tomography (ANT) surveys has further bolstered the potential of these targets, enabling 3D modeling that reinforces their viability as significant gold-copper systems. The exploration venture is energized by defined coincident gravity and magnetic anomalies that mark possible intrusion sites at economically feasible depths. Given that basement levels are estimated within 100 meters of the surface, these sites are positioned favorably for discovery.

Expectations for a Significant Mineral Discovery

The Thomson project represents a unique opportunity to uncover a new source of gold and copper through the identification of intrusion-related mineral systems. As Legacy Minerals advances its drilling activities under comprehensive government approvals, the prospect of a major discovery in this region draws nearer. Investor interest remains keen, with expectations of resource expansion following the notable increase in open-pit resources at the Drake project earlier.
