Highlights

  • Metallurgical testing to commence on skarn mineralisation at Nevada's Independence project.
  • Key focus on optimising gold recovery from high-grade sulphide ore.
  • Results to guide future development and processing method decisions for ASX:JBY.

The Independence gold project in Nevada, operated by James Bay Minerals (ASX:JBY), is set to take significant strides forward with the commencement of metallurgical testwork on its skarn mineralisation. This essential phase aims to determine the most efficient processing techniques to enhance gold recovery from this high-grade mineral deposit.

Current Resource Estimations

The recently estimated inferred resource of approximately 984,412 oz of gold at a grade of 6.67 g/t, along with an indicated resource of 294,395 oz at 0.40 g/t, underscores the project's potential. This diverse mineralisation comprises oxide, transition, and sulphide zones, positioning ASX:JBY as a prominent explorer in the high-grade gold sector.

Path to Optimisation

Given the skarn-hosted resource's rich gold content, various processing methods, including flotation and pressure oxidation, will be considered to optimise recovery. The upcoming testwork is expected to provide crucial insights into the most efficient processing approach, influencing future developmental strategies.

Strategic Importance of Metallurgical Insights

Matthew Hayes, the executive director of JBY, emphasizes the importance of this program in unlocking the full potential of the Independence project by understanding the recovery capabilities of both sulphide and transitional materials. This initiative closes a critical gap left by prior tests focused on oxide material alone.

Historical Context and Market Conditions

The Independence skarn resource shares geological characteristics with the Fortitude Mine—historically producing 2.1 Moz of gold with excellent recovery rates. Such historical parallels, combined with a favorable gold price environment peaking at US $3000/oz, set the stage for enhanced investment and exploration activities within the sector.

Next Steps in Development

With the support of external consultants, JBY plans to initiate the selection and preparation of drill cores. This approach will enable the evaluation of skarn resources yet to undergo metallurgical testing, while efforts continue to optimize recovery from epithermal zones.
