Highlights
- Phase One drilling returns significant gold intercepts at the Independence project in Nevada.
- Drill holes report a short intercept with a high gold grade and an extended intercept with moderate gold grades.
- Upcoming drilling will explore oxide mineralisation extensions and additional trends.
James Bay Minerals (ASX:JBY) operates within the gold exploration sector and is actively engaged in drilling activities at the Independence project located in Lander County, Nevada. The initial phase of the drilling program comprised a series of reverse circulation holes that uncovered notable gold intercepts. One drill hole recorded a short intercept with a high concentration of gold, while another yielded an extended intercept exhibiting moderate gold grades. These results expand the understanding of gold mineralisation beyond the existing non-JORC resource.
Geological Findings
The drilling phase tested various geological settings, including areas of intrusion-related breccias. One of the drill holes, which examined a section of the Rebel Peak area, spanned a significant vertical extent, thereby testing mineralisation across a wide zone. The breccia intercepts returned intervals of gold values over a series of drilled sections, with some subintervals exhibiting higher gold concentrations. Such findings contribute to the overall geological model of the region and provide a basis for further exploration.
Field Sampling
In addition to drilling, systematic rock chip sampling has been conducted across the project area. Seventy-seven samples have recorded gold values above ore-grade levels, with the highest sample assay reaching an elevated gold grade. These near-surface assays support the presence of oxide gold mineralisation at both North Hill and Sunshine South areas. The sampling program reinforces the notion that gold mineralisation is distributed over a broad area, providing valuable information for mapping surface expressions of the subsurface mineralisation.
Future Exploration Plans
The upcoming phase of exploration will focus on drilling extensions in the northern part of the Independence project. Specific attention will be directed toward oxide mineralisation and additional mineralised trends along the Rebel Peak corridor. This phase will also involve a detailed review of historical diamond drill core, emphasizing the study of polymetallic mineralisation within the Pumpernickel Formation and deeper gold-silver skarn occurrences within the Battle Formation. The continuation of drilling and sampling is designed to further delineate the geological framework and expand the understanding of gold distribution within the project area.
