Highlights

  • Antares Metals (ASX:AM5) shifts focus to copper and uranium exploration in Queensland’s Mt Isa region.
  • Extensive areas of historically mined land remain insufficiently explored.
  • Drilling activities and an initial resource assessment are underway amid current market conditions.

The mining sector in Australia remains active amid evolving global energy requirements and advancements in resource development. Antares Metals (ASX:AM5) operates within a renowned mining district in Queensland, where copper and uranium exploration is receiving considerable attention from industry participants.

Exploration Shift in Queensland
The company has redirected its exploration efforts from its previous asset in Western Australia to a key site near Mt Isa. This asset is located in close proximity to established operations, including those of Glencore, Fortescue (ASX:FMG) and Paladin Energy (ASX:PDN). Although the region has a long history of mining, significant portions of the area have not been recently examined using modern techniques. Historical drilling records and earlier exploration work offer background information for the current initiatives.

Drilling and Assessment Activities
Under the guidance of CEO Johan Lambrechts, recent drilling campaigns have been executed to evaluate copper occurrences on the property. A reverse circulation drilling campaign covering a considerable distance was carried out near known copper zones, such as those at the Surprise mine. Historical records from earlier exploration work documented substantial copper intersections, and contemporary methods are now being employed to reexamine these zones. Efforts are underway to complete an initial resource assessment during this phase of exploration.

Uranium Exploration Component
In addition to copper, uranium occurrences are under scrutiny on the property. Areas adjacent to Paladin Energy’s Valhalla asset have yielded noteworthy rock chip uranium measurements. While the existing regulatory framework and market conditions impose certain limitations on uranium mining in Queensland, operational strategies are being organized to accommodate any future adjustments. The uranium exploration work adds another dimension to the company’s diversified project portfolio.
