Apollo Minerals (ASX:AON) is making significant progress in its Phase 2 drilling campaign at the 100%-owned Salanie Gold Project in Gabon. The company’s latest exploration efforts focus on extending known mineralization at the A1 prospect while testing new targets across key zones, including A2, A3, and P6.
The ongoing drilling program, covering approximately 2,000 meters, has already seen five holes completed, totaling 520 meters. Of these, two holes have been submitted for laboratory analysis. The drill rig is currently positioned at the A3 historical pit, aiming to extend high-grade mineralization previously identified within quartz-vein structures.
Parallel to drilling, Apollo Minerals (AON) is advancing earthworks to prepare additional drill pads at the P6 prospect and regional targets such as Mikouma and Binda, reinforcing the broader exploration strategy. This structured approach is designed to maximize resource identification in the underexplored greenstone belt that hosts Salanie.
The Phase 2 campaign follows an exceptional Phase 1 drilling program in 2024, which confirmed the project’s high-grade gold potential. Key results included a standout intercept of 5.8 meters at 8.2 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from a depth of 15.5 meters within a broader mineralized zone of 11.7 meters at 4.3 g/t gold. Additionally, visible gold in quartz veins returned grades as high as 124 g/t gold, highlighting the project's significant untapped potential.
Supporting these ongoing exploration efforts, Apollo Minerals (AON) recently secured A$2 million in funding through a Shortfall Offer. This financial backing, underpinned by a strategic investment from Capital DI Limited, ensures the company is well-capitalized to complete the drilling campaign and pursue further resource expansion.
Salanie’s rich mining history dates back to the mid-1950s, with historical production exceeding 20,000 ounces of gold at an average grade of 12 g/t. The project is strategically located just 16 kilometers from Lambarene, a major town, and benefits from easy access via the nearby N1 highway. The geological setting within an underexplored greenstone belt presents a compelling opportunity for further discoveries.
With drilling expected to conclude by early April, Apollo Minerals (AON) remains focused on unlocking the full potential of the Salanie Gold Project, bringing modern exploration techniques to a historically rich but underexplored region.
