  • Plans underway for a major production facility in Germany.

Altech Batteries Ltd (ASX:ATC) has recently announced a significant milestone in the development of its innovative CERENERGY® sodium chloride solid-state battery technology. The company's Chief Financial Officer, Martin Stein, shared details about the successful completion of rigorous testing conducted by Fraunhofer, a renowned German government research and development institute and a partner in the project.

According to Stein, the battery technology underwent a series of individual cell tests which yielded results that surpassed expectations. "The cells have been thoroughly tested by our partners at Fraunhofer and the outcomes are highly promising, exceeding what we anticipated," Stein commented. This extensive testing covered several critical aspects including thermal stability, and efficiency during charging and discharging cycles.

A standout feature of CERENERGY® is its solid-state design, which significantly reduces the risks associated with conventional lithium-ion batteries. Stein highlighted the importance of this attribute by pointing out, "Unlike traditional batteries, our CERENERGY® technology is designed to prevent fires and explosions, which is crucial for applications in data centers, military operations, and other energy-critical infrastructure."

The recent lithium-ion battery incidents in California were cited by Stein to underscore the urgent need for safer battery solutions in various high-stake environments. The solid-state technology not only promises to enhance safety but also aligns with increasing environmental and safety standards globally.

Further boosting confidence in the project, these positive test results have facilitated progress towards establishing a 120 megawatt-hour production facility for CERENERGY® in Germany. "This development reassures our team and external stakeholders of the robust and high-quality nature of our product," Stein explained.

In addition to its safety benefits, Altech’s battery technology is strategically designed to circumvent the use of volatile raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and graphite. This approach not only makes the batteries safer but also less dependent on unpredictable global supply chains and susceptible to tariffs, positioning Altech Batteries Ltd (ATC) at the forefront of sustainable and reliable battery technology in the market.
