Highlights
- Significant Gold Intercepts: Drilling at Tomingley Gold Operations identified high-grade gold intercepts, with grades exceeding 5 grams per tonne (g/t) in certain areas.
- Underground Mining Potential: Exploration beneath the San Antonio deposit indicates steeply plunging mineralisation, suggesting underground mineable ore.
- Future Exploration Plans: Alkane plans to expand drilling to test high-grade domains and assess the potential for mine extensions and new mining areas.
Alkane Resources Ltd (ASX:ALK) announced the discovery of high-grade gold intercepts at its Tomingley Gold Operations in New South Wales. The findings, which include grades exceeding 5 grams per tonne (g/t), highlight the potential for underground mining below the existing open-cut resource at the San Antonio deposit.
Exploration Results
Recent core drilling beneath the San Antonio deposit revealed promising results, including:
- 3 metres at 1.79g/t Au from 273 metres, including 1 metre at 2.43g/t Au.
- 2 metres at 5.03g/t Au from 416 metres.
- 1 metre at 2.98g/t Au from 464 metres.
These intercepts suggest the presence of steeply plunging gold mineralisation, opening up opportunities for underground mining.
Growth Potential
The San Antonio gold resource boasts over 1 kilometer of continuous strike length, much of which remains underexplored at depth. Alkane sees significant potential for resource expansion through additional drilling. The company plans to target fertile host rocks such as andesites, monzodiorites, and dacites in its exploration efforts.
Broader Regional Opportunities
Alkane Resources Managing Director Nic Earner emphasized the untapped potential of the broader Tomingley region:
“The broader Tomingley region has many occurrences of gold mineralisation. As well as potential mine extensions of our existing undergrounds, we are doing early-stage work on identifying new mining areas.”
At the time of writing on 21 January 2025, Alkane Resources shares were trading at 52.5 cents.
