Highlights

  • Agrimin (ASX:AMN) achieves significant environmental milestone with Mackay Potash Project approval.
  • The project aims to produce the world’s lowest-cost sulphate of potash (SOP).
  • The Mackay Project targets the sustainable production of SOP to support global food security.

Agrimin (ASX:AMN) has reached a key milestone for its Mackay Potash Project in Western Australia. The project has received approval from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in Western Australia, ensuring that it meets high standards for environmental protection. With this major hurdle cleared, Agrimin now turns its focus to securing approval from the Commonwealth government for the project.

CEO Debbie Morrow expressed confidence in the project's potential, noting that it carries exceptional environmental and social credentials. She highlighted how the project will play a crucial role in sustainable food security for future generations, particularly by producing sulphate of potash (SOP), a vital ingredient in high-quality fertilizers.

The Mackay Project stands out not just for its environmental integrity but also for its strong economic prospects. Located within Lake Mackay, which holds the world’s largest undeveloped deposit of SOP brine, the project is poised to become one of the lowest-cost producers of SOP globally. Agrimin estimates that the Mackay Potash Project will deliver a significantly competitive edge in an ever-demanding market for high-value fertilizers.

The project encompasses a mine, processing plant, integrated logistics chain, and port facility, ensuring the effective extraction and transportation of SOP. The resource base beneath Lake Mackay is impressive, with a drainable mineral resource of 123 million tonnes of SOP, securing the project’s long-term viability.

Sulphate of potash is an essential, low-chloride fertilizer, ideal for growing chloride-sensitive crops such as strawberries, potatoes, almonds, avocados, and pepper. The demand for SOP is expected to rise as agriculture seeks more effective and sustainable solutions to enhance crop yield. This presents significant potential for Agrimin as they aim to make meaningful contributions to agricultural productivity worldwide.

As Agrimin advances through regulatory approvals and focuses on building the Mackay Potash Project, its unique position as a potential low-cost, large-scale SOP producer reflects both environmental and economic benefits. The project underscores the company's commitment to supporting global agricultural needs and contributing to a more sustainable future.
