  • FBR (FBR) enters $7.8M agreement with NT builder for robotic bricklaying
  • Hadrian X to address housing demand and construction speed in Northern Territory
  • FBR expands footprint with shipbuilding robotics project backed by Samsung Heavy Industries

Robotic technology company FBR (ASX:FBR) has secured a major breakthrough for its innovative Hadrian X construction robot with a $7.8 million agreement signed with Northern Territory-based construction firm Habitat (NT). The agreement supports efforts to ramp up housing development in the region amid ongoing shortages and infrastructure pressure.

Revolutionising NT Construction with Hadrian X

Under the new deal, Habitat will receive a Hadrian X robotic bricklaying system to help streamline the building of Besser block residential and defence structures. The system will act as a high-efficiency addition to traditional construction crews, aiming to significantly speed up development timelines in the Northern Territory.

The agreement includes a $780,000 deposit due shortly after contract finalisation, with the remaining balance payable within 30 days following successful factory testing. The system's capabilities will be enhanced further by Habitat’s access to FBR’s proprietary architectural software suite. The collaboration will also involve training and remote IT support from FBR to enable efficient operations and maintenance.

This partnership is positioned to alleviate workforce capacity constraints, addressing a key hurdle in the NT’s housing backlog. The shortage has intensified with infrastructure upgrades near Darwin and remote defence bases, alongside rising homebuyer demand triggered by the HomeGrown Territory Grant.

Strategic Step in Broader Automation Vision

The Hadrian X deployment is not the only milestone for FBR. In a parallel development, the company has entered into an engineering service agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries. This collaboration marks Phase 1 of a project aimed at automating elements of shipbuilding.

FBR is set to receive US$150,000 for a proof-of-concept module demonstration that could pave the way for future phases. Both parties are exploring commercialisation strategies to bring shipbuilding robotics to life — a strategic extension of FBR's automation expertise.

As a member of the ASX200, FBR's growth in advanced construction technologies aligns with broader market trends where innovation and infrastructure upgrades are increasingly interlinked. This multi-pronged strategy places FBR at the centre of both residential and industrial transformation.

FBR’s initiatives not only tackle immediate construction inefficiencies but also signal a long-term shift in how large-scale projects may be delivered across sectors. The partnership with Habitat and ongoing collaboration with global industrial players underscore FBR's growing stature in Australia's automation ecosystem.
