Highlights

  • Race Oncology collaborates with George Clinical for the clinical development of RC220 bisantrene.
  • The trial is designed to assess RC220’s safety when combined with doxorubicin in advanced solid tumors.
  • Work order approval is set at approximately $8.6 million, dependent on final patient enrollment.

Race Oncology (ASX:RAC) has entered into a collaboration with George Clinical International to advance the development of RC220 bisantrene. This initiative focuses on a clinical trial evaluating the combination of RC220 with doxorubicin, a widely used cancer treatment drug. The study, known as RAC-010, will assess safety, tolerability, and optimal dosing in patients diagnosed with advanced solid tumors.

The partnership enables Race Oncology to leverage George Clinical’s extensive experience in conducting oncology trials. As part of this agreement, all aspects of trial-related services and investigator grants will be covered, allowing for efficient trial execution.

Trial Scope and Implementation

The clinical study is structured as an open-label trial, incorporating a dose escalation and expansion design to evaluate ascending doses of RC220. This method ensures a thorough assessment of pharmacokinetics, safety, and the highest tolerable dose when administered alongside doxorubicin. Biomarkers, including m6A RNA, will also be examined to provide insights into the treatment’s biological activity.

Trial sites will be located across Australia, Hong Kong, and South Korea, facilitating a broad evaluation across multiple regions. A Bayesian model is incorporated to support flexible trial execution, ensuring efficient data collection and analysis.

Financial Considerations and Geographic Reach

The total approved budget for the work order stands at approximately $8.6 million, subject to variables such as patient enrollment and operational expenses. George Clinical’s role in the collaboration brings a wealth of expertise, with its background spanning multiple global regions, including the US, Europe, China, and Southeast Asia.

Development of Bisantrene in Oncology

Bisantrene, initially introduced by Lederle Laboratories, is known for its ability to mitigate cardiotoxic effects when used with anthracyclines. While it has been approved for specific treatments in some regions, challenges in its administration previously limited broader clinical applications.

Race Oncology’s reformulated version, RC220, is designed to streamline its clinical use while exploring its impact on both cancer treatment and cardioprotection. The RAC-010 trial aims to advance this research by assessing its combination with doxorubicin in a controlled setting.

Advancing Cancer Research

Race Oncology’s CEO, Dr. Daniel Tillett, has emphasized the importance of this development in enhancing treatment strategies. By working with George Clinical, the company aims to contribute to advancements in cancer therapy while addressing key challenges associated with traditional treatments. The study represents a step forward in the clinical evaluation of RC220, with the goal of improving therapeutic outcomes.
