Tamboran Resources (TBN) drilled Shenandoah South-3H in 25 days.
Strong gas shows and high-quality shale observed in Beetaloo Basin.
Stimulation campaigns for wells planned for early 2025.
Tamboran Resources (ASX:TBN) has successfully completed drilling the Shenandoah South-3H (SS-3H) well in the Beetaloo Basin, Northern Territory, reaching a total depth of 21,169 feet. The operation was accomplished in just 25 days, showcasing a significant improvement in efficiency compared to previous projects. This milestone marks a pivotal moment in the exploration activities within the Beetaloo Basin, highlighting the potential of this key resource area.
The SS-3H well, drilled under exploration permit EP 98, achieved an average drilling rate of 843 feet per day, outpacing the earlier SS-2H well by 10 days. Tamboran Resources attributed this achievement to the incorporation of lessons learned from its 2024 drilling campaigns.
High-Quality Shale Properties and Gas Shows
During the operation, strong gas shows and high-quality shale properties were observed throughout the horizontal section of the Mid Velkerri B Shale. This section, spanning 10,000 feet, was drilled at a total vertical depth exceeding 8,000 feet. The results align with findings from the SS-1H well drilled three miles away, further confirming the Beetaloo Basin’s promising geological characteristics.
Tamboran Resources highlighted that there were no observed faults across the horizontal section, ensuring an uninterrupted drilling process. The company plans to conduct flow testing over the full horizontal section in preparation for its 2025 drilling program.
Future Plans and Stimulation Campaigns
The SS-3H well is set to undergo an extensive stimulation campaign in early 2025. Equipment and sand have already been mobilized to the well site for this purpose. The SS-2H ST1 well will also undergo stimulation, targeting up to 45 stages along its 5,577-foot horizontal section. For SS-3H, the completion design aims to increase to as many as 75 stimulated stages over its 10,000-foot section.
Tamboran Resources is on track to release IP30 flow rate test results for both wells in the first quarter of 2025. These results are expected to provide further insights into the production capabilities of the Beetaloo Basin, as the company prepares for the Shenandoah South Pilot Project to support Northern Territory’s gas market demands.
This achievement underscores Tamboran Resources’ commitment to advancing efficient drilling practices while unlocking the potential of one of Australia's most significant gas reserves.
