Peninsula Energy (ASX:PEN) has announced the appointment of Frederic Guerin as its chief operating officer (COO) and senior vice president (SVP) of geology, effective November 25, 2024. Guerin, a highly regarded expert in uranium In Situ Recovery (ISR) technology, brings extensive international experience that aligns with the company’s strategic goals.
The appointment comes as Peninsula prepares for the restart of uranium production at its flagship Lance Projects in Wyoming, United States. This production effort marks a key phase for the company and highlights its commitment to bolstering operational efficiency and expertise in the uranium industry.
Extensive Expertise in ISR Uranium
Guerin’s career spans three decades in the uranium sector, with a specialized focus on ISR operations. His expertise includes developing low-pH ISR projects in countries such as Canada, France, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan. This background makes him a strong addition to Peninsula’s leadership as the company targets operational excellence at the Lance Projects.
With a MSc and PhD in geology and hydrogeology, Guerin is a registered Professional Geoscientist in Canada and holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, showcasing his technical and project management capabilities.
Responsibilities and Strategic Role
Based in Wyoming, Guerin will oversee the planning, execution, and control of Peninsula’s mining and processing operations. His role will involve ensuring timely project delivery within budget while maintaining stringent safety and environmental standards. Reporting directly to Peninsula’s managing director and CEO Wayne Heili, Guerin’s appointment is expected to enhance the company’s operational framework.
CEO Wayne Heili expressed confidence in Guerin’s expertise, stating that his extensive knowledge and proven track record in international uranium projects position him well to support Peninsula’s goals, particularly as the Lance Projects gear up for production.
Transition for Strata Energy Leadership
Strata Energy Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Peninsula, will also see a transition in leadership dynamics. Its CEO, Ralph Knode, will continue his role as Guerin integrates into the company’s operations. Over time, Knode will focus on community relations and provide strategic guidance, leveraging his industry experience to support Peninsula’s broader objectives.
