NexGen Energy secures approval for 2025 infrastructure upgrades at Rook
Program includes airstrip construction, camp expansion, and road improvements
Rook I positioned as one of Canada’s largest development-stage uranium projects
NexGen Energy Ltd (asx:NXG), listed on the All Ordinaries, has confirmed the approval of its 2025 site program for the Rook I Project in Canada’s Athabasca Basin. The project represents one of the largest uranium developments currently underway in the country and is seen as a central element in Canada’s clean energy infrastructure ambitions.
The newly approved works will begin in the coming weeks and are focused on improving site access, worker safety, and operational capacity ahead of future development phases.
Key Infrastructure Enhancements Set for Rollout
The 2025 program includes several core infrastructure components, starting with the construction of a temporary exploration airstrip. The facility is designed to improve logistics and provide enhanced safety for on-site personnel. The airstrip will also support a broader regional exploration program by improving transportation efficiency to and from the project site.
In addition, the accommodation camp at Rook I will be expanded significantly to support the growing workforce. Improvements to the site’s road network will also be carried out, including surface widening to enable two-way traffic and enhance vehicle safety in remote terrain.
Strengthening Operational Foundations at Rook I
NexGen’s development plan is built on a disciplined and strategic approach to infrastructure execution. According to company leadership, the upcoming upgrades will create a safer, more sustainable operational platform. The combination of improved logistics, increased accommodation, and upgraded access roads reflects a coordinated effort to lay the groundwork for long-term project execution.
Camp commissioning is expected to conclude in the first quarter of 2026, with infrastructure activities continuing in parallel with exploration and environmental workstreams.
Positioned in a Premier Uranium District
Located in the southwestern section of the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, the Rook I Project sits within one of the world's most established uranium regions. The project includes plans for a new underground mine and processing mill and is central to NexGen’s role in supplying clean energy fuel.
With growing attention on the role of nuclear energy in global decarbonisation strategies, the Athabasca Basin remains a focal point for uranium development activity. NexGen’s investment in foundational infrastructure underscores its long-term commitment to delivering reliable uranium resources.
Strategic Execution to Unlock Regional Exploration Potential
Beyond Rook I’s central development footprint, NexGen has also highlighted the broader potential of the surrounding area. Enhanced site access and logistical upgrades are expected to support a wider exploration campaign across the property, allowing the company to evaluate and expand on its current resource base.
The airstrip and associated infrastructure form part of a coordinated strategy to scale up operations while maintaining a focus on safety and environmental protection. With the 2025 program now approved, NexGen is preparing to implement a staged rollout of activities designed to enable responsible, high-performance project execution across the Athabasca Basin.
