Highlights

  • Upgraded Technology Boosts Output: Honeymoon’s recent tech improvements lead to higher production rates.
  • Strong Production Forecast: Projected to surpass previous quarters in uranium output.
  • Modular Innovations Lower Costs: Adoption of a new modular construction model may reduce capital and operational expenses.

Boss Energy (ASX:BOE) is making significant progress at its Honeymoon uranium project in South Australia, with the introduction of enhanced ion exchange (IX) technology significantly boosting production capabilities. The recent analyst site visit revealed that the project is on course to produce 850,000 pounds of triuranium octoxide (U₃O₈) in the fiscal year 2025, highlighting the effective ramp-up in activities.

The Honeymoon project has been outperforming expectations, with U₃O₈ drumming rates exceeding the IX production. This is largely due to the utilization of accumulated stock from previous quarters, now being processed more efficiently through advanced drying and packing systems. Despite facing some operational challenges with equipment such as the kiln and baghouse, Boss Energy maintains a positive outlook with an anticipated annualized run rate of about 1.18 million pounds U₃O₈ by the third quarter of FY25.

Beyond the immediate production increases, Boss Energy is also focusing on the future of the Honeymoon project. The company is in the process of constructing a version 2.0 well-house design. This innovative approach involves offsite modular unit fabrication, paving the way for potentially adopting a full-scale modular construction model. This strategy is expected not only to streamline construction processes but also to achieve significant capital and operational cost reductions.

Since acquiring the project in December 2015, Boss Energy’s strategic focus has been to enhance the technical and financial viability of Honeymoon through significant technological upgrades. The in-situ recovery (ISR) uranium mine now benefits from a larger processing capacity, leveraging the upgraded IX technology. April 2024 marked a milestone with the production of the first drum of U₃O₈ since the project's revitalization, and production has continued to scale, reaching a significant increase in the most recent half-year report.

Boss Energy’s Honeymoon project is demonstrating a robust growth trajectory, underscored by technological enhancements and strategic operational improvements. With a strong production forecast and innovative approaches to reducing costs, the project sets a promising course for the future.
