  • Exploration aligns with hydrogen initiatives in Whyalla and Port Bonython.
  • Focus on advancing Native Title for PELA 792 tenure status.

Gold Hydrogen Ltd (ASX:GHY) has expanded its exploration initiatives in South Australia, submitting a new petroleum licence application, PELA 792, covering approximately 1,900 square kilometers. This addition brings Gold Hydrogen’s total gas-related surface area in the region to 77,292 square kilometers, a significant footprint that aligns with South Australia's growing focus on hydrogen energy production.

The PELA 792 licence area is strategically divided into three zones. The eastern portion borders PELA 688, a site held by Gold Hydrogen’s subsidiary, Byrock Resources Pty Ltd. The two western sections are positioned on the Eyre Peninsula, in proximity to the planned hydrogen power infrastructure in Whyalla and Port Bonython. These government-led facilities are part of South Australia’s ambitious Hydrogen Jobs Plan, backed by a commitment exceeding AUD 500 million. With these infrastructure developments, the area is set to play a key role in bolstering renewable energy use for grid stability across local communities.

In Whyalla, the upcoming 200-megawatt hydrogen power plant will employ surplus renewable energy from wind and solar to stabilize the grid, supporting regional businesses and residents. The facility, designed to include an electrolyser and hydrogen storage, is scheduled for operations by early 2026, with aims to position Whyalla as a cornerstone in South Australia's hydrogen infrastructure.

In addition, the Port Bonython Hydrogen Hub is set to emerge as a central site for renewable hydrogen production. Developed in collaboration with the private sector, this hub offers facilities for both export and domestic markets. With access to a deep-water hydrocarbon export terminal and substantial land for development, Port Bonython strengthens the region's position in renewable energy and hydrogen export.

Gold Hydrogen is advancing its exploration with a focus on natural hydrogen and helium resources across South Australia. Through its first drilling campaign, the company has identified the presence of these gases, aligning with growing market demands. With exploration assets covering around 77,292 square kilometers, Gold Hydrogen’s portfolio includes an active exploration licence (Ramsay Project - PEL 687) and seven additional pending licences held by its subsidiaries, White Hydrogen Australia and Byrock Resources. Notably, the company has been named the preferred applicant for four gas storage exploration licences on the Yorke Peninsula section of PEL 687.

Gold Hydrogen continues active engagement with local landholders, traditional owners, and key stakeholders, fostering strong collaborative ties essential for advancing exploration. As the company proceeds with Native Title arrangements for PELA 792, it is poised to enhance South Australia’s natural hydrogen and helium sector, exploring resource-rich areas that support sustainable development and low environmental impact.
