Core Energy Minerals (ASX:CR3) has strategically expanded its uranium exploration territory in South Australia with the acquisition of the Brooker tenement. This move brings an additional 517 square kilometers under the company's ambit, adjacent to its high-potential Cummins project on the Eyre Peninsula.
Situated to the east of the existing project boundaries, the Brooker tenement encompasses part of the western margin of the Port Lincoln Uplands (Koppio Hills). This region is known for its abundant uraniferous granite source rocks, as well as several notable uranium occurrences including Mount Hill. The newly acquired area increases Core’s total landholding in the region to 4,587 sq km, thereby solidifying its position in two key zones: the Eyre Peninsula and the central Gawler Craton.
The geological underpinnings of the new tenement are particularly promising. It includes an interpreted extension of palaeochannel fluid pathways known for uranium mineralisation, representing a cost-effective addition to Core's diverse portfolio. Previous exploratory drilling in the area has identified carbonaceous Tertiary sediments that are conducive to uranium accumulation.
As part of its proactive exploration strategy, Core has outlined a comprehensive drilling program for the Cummins project, beginning with a maiden campaign of 50 aircore holes covering 3,000 meters. This drilling method was chosen for its effectiveness, speed, and minimal environmental impact, mirroring the successful techniques used previously by Core at its Western Eyre Peninsula project.
The planned drilling will focus on high-priority target areas, including the newly incorporated Brooker site. Core has already moved forward with regulatory approvals to include an additional 177 holes, allowing for an expansive and rapid follow-up campaign.
Core executive director Tony Greenaway expressed optimism about the upcoming exploration activities, citing the advanced planning and targeted approach toward exploring significant uranium anomalies. These efforts are buoyed by the company's location in a Tier 1 mining district, which is not only rich in uranium deposits but also strongly supported by regulatory frameworks favorable to uranium mining.
The expansion into the Brooker tenement by Core Energy Minerals not only enhances its resource base but also reaffirms its commitment to developing high-quality uranium projects in one of Australia's most esteemed mining regions.
