Elevate Uranium (ASX:EL8) is making significant strides towards the completion of a demonstration plant that is anticipated to revolutionize uranium processing. Set for completion in mid-2025, this facility aims to showcase the company's proprietary U-pgrade technology, which could greatly enhance the efficiency of uranium extraction.
The U-pgrade technology, developed internally by Elevate, is designed to enrich uranium ore by removing non-essential materials and concentrating the valuable uranium minerals. This process is expected to not only reduce environmental impact but also lower the costs associated with uranium extraction. The demonstration plant, currently being constructed, will first be applied to process ore from the company’s Koppies project in Namibia.
Elevate’s managing director, Murray Hill, expressed confidence in the ongoing progress, noting that the design and construction phases are adhering to the projected schedule. Fremantle Metallurgy, awarded the construction contract, is recognized for its breadth of experience in building pilot plants for both major and junior mining operations, including BHP Group (ASX:BHP).
Post-construction, the demonstration plant will undergo thorough testing in Perth. It will then be shipped to Namibia, reassembled, and put into operation to process an estimated 60 tonnes of Koppies ore. This phase is crucial as it will provide data critical to the design of a potential full-scale commercial facility.
Beyond the technological advancements, Elevate Uranium is also progressing in its exploration efforts. The company has reported encouraging results from its resource growth drilling at the Namib IV site, located just 20 kilometers from Koppies. Discovered in 2021, Namib IV has seen deferred exploration in favor of focusing on expanding the Koppies resource, which now stands at 66 million pounds.
This exploration program is strategically laid out to assess the extent of mineralization, with a view towards establishing a new resource estimate by 2025. The success at Namib IV could significantly bolster the projected lifespan and output of any future mining operations at Koppies, enhancing the overall value of Elevate’s portfolio.
With these developments, Elevate Uranium is not just working on enhancing its operational efficiency but is also laying the groundwork for sustainable growth in the uranium sector.
