Highlight:

  • D3 Energy Ltd (ASX:D3E) has commenced production testing at Nooitgedacht Major, part of its ER315 Project in South Africa’s Free State Province, targeting helium and natural gas.
  • This testing builds on earlier multi-borehole successes and aims to assess the resource potential in the northern section of the permit area.
  • The ER315 Project positions D3 Energy as a significant contributor to South Africa's energy transition, leveraging its helium and natural gas assets.

D3 Energy Ltd (ASX:D3E) has reached a pivotal milestone in advancing its energy strategy in South Africa by commencing production testing at the Nooitgedacht Major borehole. This step is part of the company’s broader efforts to explore and develop helium and natural gas resources within the ER315 Project in the Free State Province.

Production Testing at Nooitgedacht Major

Nooitgedacht Major is a legacy borehole originally drilled in 1990 during gold exploration efforts. This borehole has been naturally flowing gas since its inception, presenting a significant opportunity for resource development. Located approximately 43 kilometers north of Bloemskraal, another critical area within the ER315 Project, Nooitgedacht Major lies along the Homestead Fault, a geological structure traversing the northern section of the permit area.

The production testing program at Nooitgedacht Major is expected to span 14 days. While no interference testing is planned during this phase due to the absence of nearby offset wells, D3 Energy is laying the groundwork for future evaluations. Plans are in place to drill a new well at Erfenis 1 near Nooitgedacht Major, enabling future interference testing and further data collection on gas migration and reservoir characteristics.

Strategic Objectives of the Testing Program

This program represents an important step in D3 Energy's exploration strategy. It is designed to:

Assess the prospectivity of the northern section of the ER315 Project area.

Enhance the understanding of gas migration processes across the broader permit region.

Potentially delineate a new production fairway within the ER315 permit area.

The outcomes of this testing could significantly expand the resource base and inform future development activities, aligning with the company’s long-term objectives in South Africa.

Progress at Bloemskraal and Broader ER315 Project Scope

The current testing builds on a successful multi-borehole testing program conducted in 2024 at Bloemskraal, a nearby area within the ER315 Project. The Bloemskraal program demonstrated the presence of commercially significant gas flows, providing critical insights into the geology and resource potential of the permit area.

Nooitgedacht Major’s location along the Homestead Fault adds strategic importance to this testing, as it could reveal connections to previously identified resource zones and open new pathways for development.

About the ER315 Project

The ER315 Project is a flagship initiative for D3 Energy, covering a vast area in South Africa’s Free State Province. The project is distinguished by its substantial contingent and prospective helium and natural gas resources, positioning it as a vital component of the global energy transition. Helium, in particular, is a critical element used in applications ranging from medical imaging to high-tech manufacturing, making its exploration and development highly significant.

D3 Energy’s focus on helium and natural gas exploration underscores its commitment to supporting South Africa’s energy needs while contributing to the global shift toward cleaner energy solutions.

Positioning for South Africa’s Energy Future

D3 Energy is well-positioned to play a transformative role in South Africa’s energy sector. By leveraging its helium and natural gas resources, the company aligns with broader efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce dependency on traditional fossil fuels. The ER315 Project represents not only a significant opportunity for economic development in South Africa but also a step toward meeting global energy demands with sustainable and innovative solutions.

The results of the production testing at Nooitgedacht Major are expected to provide valuable insights into the resource potential of the northern ER315 area. These findings will likely inform the next stages of exploration and development, further cementing D3 Energy’s role as a leader in the region’s energy transition.

D3 Energy Ltd’s strategic focus on helium and natural gas exploration aligns with the growing global emphasis on critical energy resources. The commencement of production testing at Nooitgedacht Major underscores the company’s commitment to advancing its South African project portfolio and contributing to the region's energy security and economic growth.
