Australian industrials sector player founded in 1951 that became publicly listed on the ASX in 2007, Saunders International Limited (ASX:SND) is a reputable, multi-disciplinary company offering diverse services to a wide range of industrial and infrastructure clients.

SND is a leader in bulk storage tanks with some exceeding 70m in diameter, for oil companies and terminal operators. The Company also serves the bulk storage needs of the water, mining and chemicals sectors.

In January 2016, the Company launched the Asset Services business for waterproofing, painting, blasting, concrete remediation and other services. The following year, Civilbuild was acquired to enhance the bridge construction and precast beams manufacture space.

More recently, SND demonstrated positive results in FY20-H1, reflecting practical implementation of the corporate strategy and renewed operating model. The order book soared by 60.5% compared with value at 30 June 2019, while revenue and EDBITDA went up by 5.5% and 262.5%, respectively, from FY19-H1.

SND Management Team

SND recognises the importance of its partners, suppliers, sub-contractors and customers to the overall business success. Truly underpinning its success, the Company’s people have been key to the revitalisation of the Group. The over 220 strong permanent work force adheres to core values of innovation, integrity, teamwork, safety and leadership.

Guiding this workforce is a well experienced and highly skilled management team that comprises of the Board and a Key Management Team.

Board

The key personnel of the Company’s Board comprise of its Chairman, Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer and Non-Executive Directors.

Chairman & Non-executive Director - Mr Timothy Burnett

Mr. Burnett has over 38 years’ experience in managing projects & companies in the field of engineering & construction

Prior to his current role, Mr Burnett served as Managing Director of SND for 15 years. He has been a Non-Executive Director of the Company since 1990. Before SND, for a 9-year period, he worked in regions and countries including Australia, Asia and Europe on construction projects related to marine oil & gas facilities for Brown & Root Inc as a senior manager.

Besides an MBA degree from Harvard University, he has a degree from Melbourne University for Bachelor of Engineer (Civil) degree.

MD & CEO - Mr Mark Benson

Holding 25 years’ experience in executive management roles in the engineering & construction industry, Mark Benson served as General Manager of RCR Energy before joining SND. A GAICD, Mr Benson had been MD since 5 October 2015 and a Non-executive Director since 10 August 2015.

He has held senior ranks on various major utility alliances. Highly qualified personnel, Mr Benson has an electrical engineering background and holds an Advanced Diploma in Management from Ballarat University and an Advanced Diploma in Project Management.

Non-Executive Director - Mr Greg Fletcher

Having retired from Deloitte partnership in 2009 to take on board roles, Mr Fletcher has been SND’s Non-Executive Director since 1 July 2015. Besides this, he is Vice-Chairman of Yancoal Australia Limited, listed on the ASX, Chairman of Smeg Australia Pty Ltd, a director of TAFE NSW and Chair or Member of Audit and Risk Committees of several NSW government owned entities

Key Management

The key personnel of the Company’s Key Management comprise of its Chief Financial Officer, General Manager for Saunders Civilbuild, Key Account Manager and Company Secretary.

Chief Financial Officer - Mr Rudy Sheriff

With over 15 years’ experience in leading financial operations for large matrix structured companies within the engineering services industry, Mr Sheriff fills the role of CFO at SND, having held the role of Divisional Finance Manager for Ventia’s Asset and Infrastructure business prior. Before this, for 4 years, he was GM, Finance for UGL’s Resources business.

His experience involves complex resources, infrastructure, and rail and roads portfolios in the industry. At SND, his role both strengthens and widens the skills and experience of the executive management unit to expand the business and partake in the strategic growth prospects.

GM Saunders Civilbuild – Jonathon Bromilow

Holding a Bachelor of Construction Management degree, Mr. Bromilow is an experienced manager who led big teams of up to 250 persons in the fields of construction, industrial manufacturing and maintenance. Before becoming a part of Saunders, he spent an approximate period of 10 years with RCR Energy and during this period, Mr Bromilow served at multiple sites as a Senior Project Manager. He has a strong focus on successfully delivering project outcomes for his clients, while achieving financial performance targets and delivering excellence in WH&S.

Operations Manager (Engineering, Construction & Maintenance) – Matthew Redmond

Mr Redmond has 12 years’ experience delivering projects in the engineering and construction industry. Prior to that, Mr. Redmond spent 16 years in craft roles in the oil and construction sectors. He has held various roles at Saunders since joining the company in December 2015. In his current role, Matt focuses on the successful delivery of projects, and works to improve quality, productivity and efficiency across operations. He holds a Diploma in Project Management from the University of New England and a Master of Project Management degree from the University of Aberdeen.

Operations Manager (Asset Services) – Steve Bailey

Mr. Bailey has over 25 years’ experience within the engineering, consulting, contracting and construction industry, delivering services to the Energy, Infrastructure, Resources and Mineral processing industries. Committed to elimination of fatalities and permanent disabilities, and systematic reduction of all other injuries whilst providing a safe and healthy workplace. He holds an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and an Advanced Diploma in Business Management. Steve’s particular experience focuses on Oil & Gas, Power Stations, Mechanical Piping, Civil and Structural.

Operations Manager – Rick Burke

With over 20 years of industry experience, Mr. Burke brings to Saunders, specialised coverage under all aspects of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality requirements. With multiple discipline experience for large projects and Tier 1 role experience for SHEQ and Project Management coverage. This includes civils, piping, structural, electrical, tanks, pressure vessels, welding and management of high-performance teams in support of all project works and documentation. Prior to joining SND, Mr Burke worked for UGL, CH2M, Veolia, JHG and Sydney Desal. He holds a Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering, Boilermaker Welder Trade, NACE Coating and maintains all high-risk work licences.

SND seems to be well positioned for the year at the back of a strong orderbook and pipeline of opportunities, which could see revenue growth accompanied with EBIDA growth into FY21 and beyond. This shows that the management is assuring good days for now and later. Moreover, it will be interesting to witness further growth of this active contributor to the development of Australia’s industries.

SND was trading at $0.435 on 7 May 2020 (AEST 12:59 PM), moving upward by 2.353% from its previous close.
