 U.S. shares higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.20%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.20%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.63%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.82%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 2.13% or 6.26 points to trade at 300.58 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 1.68% or 1.88 points to end at 113.83 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 1.42% or 4.93 points to 351.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.44% or 2.63 points to trade at 179.90 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 0.90% or 0.90 points to end at 98.74 and Johnson&Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) shed 0.89% or 1.41 points to 156.77.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which rose 6.25% to 173.80, Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH) which was up 4.71% to settle at 35.13 and Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:GOOGL) which gained 4.60% to close at 147.68.

The worst performers were International Paper (NYSE:IP) which was down 3.96% to 34.91 in late trade, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which lost 2.71% to settle at 14.38 and Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT) which was down 2.64% to 112.44 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ShiftPixy Inc (NASDAQ:PIXY) which rose 100.00% to 6.80, Solidion Technology Inc (NASDAQ:STI) which was up 56.32% to settle at 2.72 and Canoo Inc (NASDAQ:GOEV) which gained 49.48% to close at 2.90.

The worst performers were Global Mofy Metaverse Ltd (NASDAQ:GMM) which was down 67.00% to 0.97 in late trade, Sonder Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SOND) which lost 38.18% to settle at 3.40 and Worksport Ltd (NASDAQ:WKSP) which was down 37.57% to 0.46 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1442 to 1427 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1995 fell and 1418 advanced, while 113 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.56% to 14.33.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.09% or 1.95 to $2,163.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.11% or 1.70 to hit $82.28 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.96% or 1.67 to trade at $87.01 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.10% to 149.18.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 103.25.
