
Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.79%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were EQB Inc (TSX:EQB), which rose 13.52% or 10.66 points to trade at 89.49 at the close. Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) added 8.17% or 0.72 points to end at 9.53 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) was up 7.10% or 0.37 points to 5.58 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Descartes Systems Group Inc (TSX:DSG), which lost 6.84% or 9.16 points to trade at 124.73 in late trade. Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS) declined 4.40% or 6.63 points to end at 144.14 and Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) shed 3.36% or 2.73 points to 78.51.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 510 to 425 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.11% to 8.95.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.03% or 0.60 to $2,363.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.67% or 1.32 to hit $77.91 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.77% or 1.48 to trade at $81.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 104.70.
