ASX 200 closes marginally up; consumer staples & utilities lead gains

  • Consumer staples was the biggest gainer, advancing 1.47% followed by utilities which ended 0.98% up, while energy falls 2.09%.

  • Mineral Resources Limited (ASX:MIN) and A2 Milk Company Ltd (ASX:A2M) gained the most on the index, moving ahead 4.79% and 4.54% respectively.
  • James Hardie Industries plc (ASX:JHX) and Sims Ltd (ASX:SGM) fell 13.42% and 9.23% respectively.
  • Over the last five days, the index has lost 0.26% and 6.62% over the last 52 weeks.
  • Nine out of 11 sectors closed in green today.
  • Consumer staples was the biggest gainer, advancing 1.47% followed by utilities which ended 0.98% up, while energy falls 2.09%.
  • The All-Ordinaries Index gained 0.29%.

Newsmakers

Sarytogan Graphite (ASX:SGA): Drilling at the name-brand deposit in Central Kazakhstan has produced further high-grade graphite intercepts for Sarytogan Graphite.

The Central Graphite Zone's 14 diamond drill holes most recently produced intercepts with more than 30% total graphitic carbon (TGC) and a thickness of more than 60 metres.

Meanwhile, shares of Sarytogan Graphite closed trading at AU$0.31 each, up 34.78% on ASX today.

Si6 Metals (ASX:SI6): Si6 Metals informed through an ASX filing that it has completed its phase three aircore drilling campaign at Monument gold property in Western Australia.

Meanwhile, shares of Si6 Metals closed trading at 0.0060 per share, up 20% on ASX today.

Bond yield

Australia’s 10-year Bond Yield stands at 4.05% as of 4.22 PM AEDT.

In global markets

Ahead of tonight's midterm elections, the US market surged and equities of banks, healthcare organisations, and consumer goods businesses advanced.

The S&P 500 climbed 0.96% to 3,806.80. The Dow Jones was up 1.31% to 32,827.00. The NASDAQ Composite gained 0.85% to 10,564.52, and the small-cap Russell 2000 increased 0.55% to 1,809.81.

In Asia, the Asia Dow gained 1.37%, Nikkei in Japan climbed 1.34% while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong lost 0.62%, Shanghai Composite in China decreased by 0.63% at 4.33 PM AEDT.

In commodities markets

Crude Oil WTI was spotted trading at US$91.22/bbl while Brent Oil was at US$97.35/bbl at 4.35 PM AEDT.

Gold was at US$1669.05 an ounce, copper was at US$3.59/Lbs and iron ore was at US$88.50/T at 4.35 PM AEDT.
