Australia-based mineral exploration company, Shree Minerals Limited (ASX:SHH) has made significant progress towards the recommencement of the Nelson Bay River Iron Project.

In a significant market update, the diversified mineral explorer stated that it has completed & lodged a supplement to Development Proposal & Environment Management Plan (DPEMP) with EPA for the Direct Shipping Ore (DSO) project at Nelson Bay River. The supplement to DPEMP has been completed in response to the request for additional information (RFI) regarding Flora & Fauna.

The Nelson Bay Riven project is a cutting-edge iron ore project, holding a JORC Mineral Resource of 11.3Mt Fe.

In late March 2022, the miner received a permitting update for the NBR DSO project from the Chairperson of Tasmanian EPA Board stating that the board has considered the comments raised by the public representation and agency submissions.

Notably, the permit application DA 18/059 made by Shree along with DPEMP for the DSO project was advertised for public consultation in Dec 2021 by Circular Head Council & EPA Tasmania.

In response to the same, the EPA told Shree that it had received a representation during the public consultation period. The agency had also received comments on the project from various state government agencies and bodies.

Having considered the comments raised by the public representation and agency submission, EPA advised Shree to refer the current development proposal to the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) for determination under the EPBC Act in relation to the Giant Freshwater Crayfish.

EPA has also notified that an additional request for information on the other issues will be issued to the Company once all information has been processed. SHH will work jointly with its technical consultants to have this completed once it receives the additional RFI.

In mid-April, SHH made a detailed submission to DAWE in this regard.

What’s next?

Shree in conjunction with its technical consultants has completed the supplement which is a comprehensive & detailed report to respond to RFI. This will enable the completion of the  assessment process in the coming months and facilitate a decision for the grant of Permit.

Further, SHH hopes to be in a position to consider a formal decision for the recommencement of the mine once the permit is granted.
