Arcadia (ASX:AM7) sharpens exploration focus on Kum Kum Nickel Project after positive study results - Kalkine Media

Namibia-focused minerals exploration company Arcadia Minerals (ASX:AM7, FRA:8OH) has updated that a Minerals Systems Approach investigation at the University of Stellenbosch for the Kum-Kum Ni-Cu-PGE Project Licences has been completed and a report has been shared with the company.

Minerals Systems Approach investigation at Kum-Kum

The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Stellenbosch has concluded the assessment, delivering a report titled “Geological overview and sulphide mineralisation potential of the Tantalite Valley Complex” to the company. The report was delivered by Drs. Martin Klausen and Bjorn von der Heyden & Mr Daniel Ferreira from the Department of Earth Sciences after an extensive examination of the project’s geology.

Tantalite Valley and Kum-Kum Complexes Source: Arcadia Mineral announcement 9 May 2022

The assessment included numerous historical documents with exploration results, which were discovered at the Kum-Kum Project. The best assay results came from three boreholes drilled by Rio Tinto Exploration, Tantalite Valley Minerals and Southern Sphere between 1972 and 1976, and included –

  • 00 m @ 0.65% Ni, 0.16% Cu
  • 00 m @ 0.61% Ni, 0.30% Cu
  • 44 m @ 0.62% Ni, 0.30% Cu

A technical team from Arcadia and the University of Stellenbosch had undertaken a geological study comprising of two field sampling campaigns, which spanned over 8 days collecting 94 field samples, along with a detailed examination of 57 historical drill core segments and data from historical records hyperspectral mapping, and stream sediment sampling at the Tantalite Valley Complex (TVC).

Also, historical coring samples were obtained and sampled to record first intersections of PGE and Au mineralisation in ultramafic units of the Tantalite Valley Complex. Some of the best results are-

  • 71% Ni, 0.28% Cu, 0.84 g/t Pd and 0.4 g/t Pt in orthopyroxenite
  • 58% Ni, 0.30% Cu, 0.69 g/t Pd, 0.31 g/t Pt and 0.26% Au in orthopyroxenite

The primary magnetic sulphides include coarse-grained pentlandite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite. Geochemical similarities between the Tantalite Valley Complex (TVC) and the Kum-Kum complex are outlined by the whole rock geochemistry. Located in in Southern Namibia, the TVC is a roughly oval-shaped mafic-ultramafic complex of nearly 7km length and 3.3km width. The TVC is crystallised as mafic/ultramafic layered intrusion and is likely to have originated from mantle derived parental magma.

Talking about TVC, a renowned expert from the University of Stellenbosch said,

“The presence of primary magmatic sulphides within the mineralised pyroxenite emphasises that sulphide immiscibility has occurred somewhere within the stratigraphy of the TVC and thus that a stratiform Ni-Cu-PGE disseminated sulphide ‘reef’ horizon could exist somewhere in the TVC.”

AM7 traded at AU$0.21 a share with a market capitalisation of AU$20.09 million.
