Queensland Government to lead trade mission to the US ahead of Brisbane 2032
Infrastructure, defence, and biotech sectors to feature in global promotion efforts
Olympic preparations expected to drive demand in steel, iron, and mining industries
The Queensland Government is preparing to launch a senior-level trade mission to the United States, with a focus on strengthening international ties and showcasing the state's development plans for the upcoming 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The delegation will promote Queensland’s economic strengths in infrastructure, defence, and biotechnology.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarod Bleijie, is set to engage with stakeholders across multiple sectors during the mission. A key part of the visit includes direct interaction with the LA 2028 Olympic Games infrastructure team and tours of major stadium and transport facilities to examine long-term delivery models.
Olympic Legacy Drives Strategic Planning
With Brisbane designated as the host city for the 2032 Games, the Queensland Government has outlined a comprehensive delivery roadmap to ensure the event delivers lasting benefits. A core focus of this roadmap includes urban renewal and infrastructure projects such as a major stadium development at Victoria Park.
This infrastructure program is expected to expand beyond Brisbane, enhancing transport and facilities throughout Queensland. The state aims to generate economic flow-on effects for a range of industries, from construction to regional supply chains.
Global Insights from LA 2028 Infrastructure Tour
The upcoming US mission will serve as a fact-finding effort to explore how Los Angeles, a two-time Olympic host, is leveraging its infrastructure projects for post-Games transformation. Queensland's team plans to incorporate these insights to maximise social and economic benefits from the 2032 Games.
In Brisbane, plans are underway to redevelop Woolloongabba into a hub for entertainment and residential living. This transformation is closely linked to Olympic infrastructure commitments and is expected to stimulate broader urban development outcomes.
Mining Sector to Support Olympic Infrastructure Needs
Australia’s resource sector is anticipated to play a crucial role in supplying raw materials required for Queensland’s Olympic-related construction efforts. Infrastructure components such as stadiums and transport links will require significant volumes of steel, aluminium, and glass.
Iron and steel production relies heavily on key raw materials including iron ore and metallurgical coal. Australia’s position as a major global supplier aligns with projected increases in steel production over the coming years, creating opportunities across mining regions.
According to recent data, global demand for steel is trending upward, with several new production facilities under development across Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
Biotech and Defence Sectors Promoted in US Outreach
The Queensland delegation will also visit leading biotech innovation centres in the United States to highlight the state's capabilities in biomedicine, biofuels, and research. These visits align with the Queensland Government’s objective to establish the region as a hub for life sciences and technological advancement.
The trade mission will promote regional job creation by supporting long-term investment in defence industries and advanced manufacturing. Officials expect to meet with stakeholders to explore international partnerships and unlock strategic growth across key development precincts.
