Highlights

  • Gravity separation achieves high-purity heavy mineral concentrate.

  • Metallurgical testing indicates titanium-rich mineral fractions.

  • Continued drilling and analysis to refine resource estimates.

The titanium minerals sector is experiencing continued advancements, with Mining Stock Equinox Resources (ASX:EQN) focusing on mineral development in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The Mata da Corda project has shown promising metallurgical results, with gravity separation yielding a high-purity heavy mineral concentrate. This development supports a streamlined beneficiation approach for titanium dioxide production, reinforcing the potential growth of mining stocks in the sector.

Metallurgical Process and Mineral Concentration
Initial metallurgical testing included processing material collected from multiple reverse circulation drill holes. The procedure involved scrubbing, screening, and gravity separation, which resulted in a concentrate containing a high percentage of heavy minerals. The material was further subjected to magnetic separation, allowing for the differentiation of mineral fractions, particularly those enriched with titanium-bearing minerals.

Titanium and Polymetallic Composition
Drilling conducted across several prospects confirmed the presence of titanium minerals alongside rare earth oxides and niobium pentoxide. The analysis indicated notable enrichment in ilmenite within the magnetic fraction, reinforcing the viability of extracting titanium dioxide from the deposit. Additionally, the presence of rare earth elements and niobium highlights the polymetallic nature of the deposit, broadening its mineral profile.

Efficiency of Processing Techniques
The beneficiation process incorporated a gravity separation circuit that operates without chemical reagents, enhancing environmental and economic efficiency. This method allows for a cleaner separation of mineralized material, reducing operational complexities. The free-dig nature of the deposit further supports the feasibility of large-scale extraction.

Next Steps in Resource Assessment
Ongoing metallurgical testing will include XRF analysis to assess sand and slime fractions, with preliminary results anticipated soon. A QEMSCAN analysis is also planned to determine mineral assemblage, grain size distribution, and liberation characteristics. Continued drilling at tighter spacing is underway to refine resource estimates, with the release of an initial resource statement expected in the coming year.

Collaborative Development and Research
Equinox Resources continues its research and development efforts to advance its understanding of the mineralization within the Mata da Corda project. These ongoing assessments will contribute to a more comprehensive evaluation of the deposit’s composition and beneficiation potential.
