Wellbeing is a super subjective term. If you search it on the internet, you can come across hundreds of definitions for this term. However, it is challenging to define wellbeing in terms of real emotions and understanding. Simply put, mental wellbeing refers to a state of mind where the person feels peaceful, light, and happy in daily living.
For years, mental wellbeing was not given much heed; however, with the rising awareness of the subject, people and groups have started talking and writing on the issue in public forums.
Emotional wellbeing is another subcategory of mental wellbeing. People may assume the two are the same. However, mental wellbeing is a broad umbrella term that generally discusses mental health. And emotional wellbeing talks about emotional stability.

Why is it important to talk about mental wellbeing?
As per the National Study of Mental Health and Wellbeing, 1 person in every 5 Aussies experienced mental disorder in last one year, while 2 persons in every 5 Australians have had mental disorder once in their lifetime. Also, over 54% of the population, who identified as bisexual, gay, lesbian, or queer, have had a mental disorder in the year 2020-21. Considering the high prevalence rate of mental ill health, it becomes more important to talk about mental health and address the issues causing it.

Here's how mental health affects healthy living:
- Mental stability means healthy living: If a person's mental wellbeing is not stable, then that person will find it hard to find peace and happiness in daily living. Mental stability also defines that you are not in a fragile state of mind; thus, you thrive towards healthy living.
- Positivity around: A person who is not mentally stable will not feel positive about life and their surroundings. If the person doesn't feel positive, they can’t spread positivity.
- Stable planning for the future: Mental wellbeing is highly essential for future planning. Mental stability is of utmost importance when one thinks about their future and the vital aspects affecting the future. It can be tough to plan for the future if you are not feeling good about life.
- Happy living: Mental wellbeing is highly essential for comfortable living. Happiness is what keeps us going in life; thus, we all seek out joy. However, finding pleasure in daily events can be challenging if a person is not mentally well.
Mental health is still not talked about often. Among families and friends too, mental health is still a subject people usually ignore to discuss in depth. Not discussing mental health publicly and regularly is ironic because it defines your entire lifestyle and outlook. Thus, the talk on mental wellbeing should now be normalised.
