Shane van Gisbergen's contract extension with Red Bull Ampol only runs until the end of 2024, the two-time defending Supercars champion has let slip.
The New Zealander's immediate future in the touring car series seemed to have been put to rest last week when a "multi-year" contract extension was announced by Triple Eight.
But in an interview with Fox Sports that aired on Sunday, van Gisbergen said he was looking forward to "at least one more year here, which is cool".
The 33-year-old was asked to clarify whether the deal was only a one-year extension and he sheepishly confirmed that was correct.
Van Gisbergen has been Supercars' dominant driver since three-time champion Scott McLaughlin left at the end of 2020 to compete in IndyCar.
He has claimed the last two Supercars titles in commanding style, and also won last year's Bathurst 1000 to go with his win at Mount Panorama in 2020.
Van Gisbergen raised some concerns about the Gen3 cars when previously speaking about his future, with Red Bull transitioning from racing Commodores to Chevrolet Camaros after the demise of Holden.
Despite enduring a controversial opening round in Newcastle when he was disqualified from the first race, van Gisbergen has bounced back with three wins this season.
He took out the opening race of the Perth Supersprint on Saturday, coming out on top in the final lap after an epic battle with Erebus young gun Brodie Kostecki.
But van Gisbergen will have to come from ninth and 21st respectively in Sunday's two races at Wanneroo Raceway after being off the pace in qualifying.
Coca-Cola Racing's Will Brown excitedly claimed pole for the second race of the weekend, while van Gisbergen's Red Bull Ampol teammate Broc Feeney will start at the front of the grid for the later 42-lap sprint.
"I was pretty p****d off from the (qualifying session) before. I was on for a top-three and speared off in the last corner," Feeney said.
"I executed that pretty well, I was pretty pumped when I saw the time and another pole so hopefully we can convert again."
