Output of grains is on track for record high worldwide, IGC says

Meanwhile, overall grain consumption forecasts have been raised by two million tons to 2.336 billion tons. Estimates for wheat output remain unchanged at 799 million tons. However, global rice production is now forecast at 541 million tons, reflecting improved outlooks for India’s rice harvest. Soybean production is also expected to break records, with the IGC increasing its forecast by three million tons to 423 million tons, supported by strong harvests across South America. Looking further ahead, the IGC expects global grain production to climb to 2.377 billion tons for the 2025-26 season, up two million tons from its previous forecast.
Consumption is also projected to grow, reaching 2.373 billion tons, driven by record demand for food, feed and industrial uses. The latest projections factor in updated planting data and yield expectations.
