The UK economy expanded in the second quarter of 2021. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew at 5.5%, well above the market estimate of 4.8% as per the data published by the Office for National Statistics.
GDP numbers bounced back following a contraction (-1.4%) in the previous quarter, primarily due to a rise in household consumption following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions during the quarters.
After the GDP data announcement, the blue-chip index FTSE100, which constitute the top 100 companies by market cap, was trading in positive territory.
