How the UK Markets’ Performed Lately; Whitbread up by 1.62%

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 83.06 points or 1.33 per cent lower at 6,157.30, the FTSE 250 index snapped at 65.83 points or 0.38 per cent lower at 17,302.03, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 39.17 points or 1.14 per cent lower at 3,412.28, respectively. Another European index STOXX 600 ended down by 2.86 points or 0.78 per cent, at 365.43. Among other major European indices, DAX index closed the session at 12,528.18, down by 80.28 points or 0.64 per cent; CAC 40 index decreased by 42.24 points or 0.84 per cent and ended the trading session at 5,007.14.

European News: London and European markets appeared volatile today as June’s vigorous service sector activity in China strengthened hopes of economic recovery from the coronavirus-induced downturn. Meanwhile, Eurozone’s Composite PMI (Purchasing Managers' Index) bounced from 31.9 in May to 48.5 in June. Likewise, UK’s PMI rose from 29.0 in May to 47.1 in June, albeit it is still below the threshold level (50) for growth. Among the gaining stock, Land Securities Group gained close to 0.8 percent after submitting an update over rent collection. Among the declining stocks, the energy majors – BP and Royal Dutch Shell dipped over 1.9 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively, following the oil price plunge due to rising concerns over a resurgence in Covid-19 cases. Also, the Pennon Group shed around 1.8 percent after releasing the annual report for FY19 and highlighting the significant impact of Covid-19 over the operations. Similarly, AB Foods dropped about 1.8 percent.

Top Three Performers*: AMIGO HOLDINGS PLC (AMGO), CMC MARKETS PLC (CMCX) and DWF GROUP PLC (DWF) accelerated significantly by 52.94 per cent, 18.44 per cent and 12.55 per cent, respectively.

Worst Performers*: ROLLS-ROYCE HOLDINGS PLC (RR.), CC JAPAN INCOME & GROWTH (CCJI) and AA PLC (AA.) plunged by 7.69 per cent, 7.14 per cent and 6.39 per cent, respectively.

Best Gainers*: FRESNILLO PLC (LON:FRES), WHITBREAD PLC (LON:WTB) & JUST EAT TAKEAWAY.COM N.V. (LON:JET) leapt up by 1.54 per cent, 1.49 per cent and 1.44 per cent, respectively.

Non Performers*: ROLLS-ROYCE HOLDINGS PLC (LON: RR.), NEXT PLC (LON:NXT) and MELROSE INDUSTRIES PLC (LON:MRO) traded in the red zone and decreased by 7.69 per cent, 3.88 per cent and 2.99 per cent, respectively.

Shares traded with decent volume*: (BARC) BARCLAYS PLC; (IAG) INTERNATIONAL CONSOLIDATED AIRLINES GROUP SA; (VOD) VODAFONE PLC.

Top Sector traded in the positive zone*: Technologies (+0.03 per cent).

Top Sectors traded in the negative zone*: Financials (-1.73 per cent), Basic Materials (-1.70%), and Energy (-1.66%).

Crude Oil Future Prices*: WTI crude oil (future) price was hovering at $40.28 per barrel & Brent future crude oil (future) price was trading at $42.77 per barrel.

Forex Rates*: GBP to USD and EUR to GBP were hovering at 1.2476 and 0.9015, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasury yield was tilting at 0.669 per cent, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was hovering at 0.187 per cent, respectively.
