UK Market: The UK stock market was trading in the positive territory on Thursday, with the blue-chip FTSE100 index gaining around 0.05 per cent. Oil giants, including BP and Shell, were among the blue-chip risers that dragged the index upwards amid the busy period for corporate results. Meanwhile, the economic activity figures released by the Office for National Statistics showed that the average price of the gas price went down by 60% in the week to 23 October.
Shell plc (LON: SHEL): The shares of the oil and gas company, Shell plc, were up by 5.18%, with a day's high of GBX 2,418.50. This happened with the company announcing quarterly adjusted earnings of $9.5 billion along with an Adjusted EBITDA of $21.5 billion.
BP plc (LON: BP.): The shares of the oil and gas supermajor, BP plc, were up by 3.23%, with a day's high of GBX 481.05. The company announced that it expects to raise its buy-back by US$400-700mln with its additional cash generation.
Harbour Energy plc (LON: HBR): The shares of the independent oil and gas firm, Harbour Energy plc, were up by 1.88%, with a day's high of GBX 389.80. Anne Marie Cannon has recently stepped down from the firm's non-executive director position.
US Markets: The US market is likely to get a mediocre start, as indicated by the futures indices. S&P 500 future was up by 1.75 points or 0.05% at 3,843.00, while the Dow Jones 30 future was up by 0.71% or 226 points at 32,098.00.00. However, the technology-heavy index Nasdaq Composite future was down by 0.47% or 53.75 points, at 11,393.25. (At the time of writing – 8:00 AM ET).
The social media company's shares, Meta, were down by 22.8% in the premarket trading session. This happened after the company unveiled a lower-than-expected projection for the fourth quarter.
Ford's shares of the automobile maker were down by 1.7% in the premarket trading session. This happened after the company declared a net loss of $827 million for its latest quarter.
