 European Markets Came Under Pressure On May 01, 2019

Global Markets: Equities at the Wallstreet were trading in mix, with the broader index S&P 500 index was quoting at 2,942.38 and declined by 3.45 points or 0.12 per cent against the prior day close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average Index was trading 16.83 points or 0.06 per cent lower at 26,576.08, and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite Index stood at 8,112.05 and surged by 16.66 points or 0.21 per cent against the prior day close, at the time of writing.

Global News: The US Central Bank, amid burden from the administration to slash interest rates, is likely to leave the rates unchanged. Global equities increased for the fourth consecutive day as the dollar dipped after some disappointing data. US held constructive trade talks with China in Beijing as stated by the US Treasury Secretary.

European Markets: At the closing bell, the FTSE 100 index declined by 32.96 points (down 0.44%) to 7,385.26 and the STOXX 600 closed lower by 0.26 points (down 0.07%) to 391.09. The FTSE 250 index was in a downtrend and decreased by 0.06% to 19,813.74 and the FTSE All-Share index was down by 0.38% to 4,052.60 at the closing bell.

European News: Jeremy Corbyn avoided calls to back second Brexit referendum as part of its European Election’s manifesto and announced the party would maintain its existing policy of supporting a soft Brexit with a customs union. As speculations were rife that Theresa May is set to water down her red lines, Labour has expressed fresh optimism that a Brexit compromise deal can be agreed.

London Stock Exchange

Top Risers Stocks: FERREXPO PLC (FXPO), XAAR PLC (XAR), and NEWRIVER REIT PLC (NRR) were surged by 9.26 per cent, 5.41 per cent and 4.79 per cent respectively.

Top Fallers Stocks: ALLIED MINDS PLC (ALM), NANOCO GROUP PLC (NANO) and CHARLES TAYLOR PLC (CTR) were decreased by 6.32 per cent, 6 per cent and 5.78 per cent respectively.

Top Performers Stocks: PADDY POWER BETFAIR PLC (PPB), SAINSBURY (J) PLC (SBRY) and LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE GROUP PLC (LSE) were accelerated by 4.28 per cent, 3.91 per cent and 3.43 per cent respectively.

Top Laggards Stocks: MICRO FOCUS INTERNATIONAL PLC (MCRO), JUST EAT PLC (JE.) and ANTOFAGASTA PLC (ANTO) were declined by 5.07 per cent, 2.72 per cent and 2.18 per cent respectively.

Top Volume Leaders: Lloyds Banking Group Plc (LLOY), GLENCORE PLC (GLEN) and VODAFONE GROUP PLC (VOD).

Top Performers Sector: Consumer Cyclicals and Financials.

Top Fallers Sector: Technology, Energy, Healthcare, Utilities, Consumer Non-Cyclicals, Basic Materials, Telecommunications Services and Industrials.

Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income

FX Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were exchanging at 1.3045 and 0.8583 respectively.

10-Year Bond Yields*: US 10Y Treasury and UK 10Y Bond yields were hovering at 2.514% and 1.150% respectively.
