US Airlines ban alcohol on domestic flights after passengers created ruckus

Summary

  • Several US airlines enforced stricter security measures at journeys to and from Washington, DC, after Trump supporters created ruckus in the flights in the wake of an attack on the White House Thursday.
  • As a response to the recent events, American Airlines has banned alcohol consumption on the domestic flights to and from Washington, DC.
  • More flight attendants have been brought to work on these flights, as well as increased law enforcement has been implemented at some airports.

Recent violent protests at the White House resulted in dangerous flying conditions for the passengers, as it was brought to the notice of the Association of Flight Attendants, an American union, which represents 17 airlines in the country.

For that reason, some aeroplane companies decided to temporarily ban alcohol consumption on domestic flights to and from Washington, DC.

According to the Flight Attendant Association, several Trump supporters travelling to Washington, DC, disobeyed the aeroplane staff by refusing to wear masks, and harassing other passengers and the flight crew. In a separate incident, one of the passengers projected a Trump 2020 title on the ceiling of the aeroplane.

One of the high-profile individuals who was harassed was Senator Mitt Romney.

International President of the Association, Sara Nelson, urged all aeroplane companies that are represented by the union to increase safety measures during flights.

Ms Nelson added that the recent mob mentality projected on the flights potentially threatened every individual onboard:

What did other airlines do?

American Airlines took a quick action after the incident and prohibited the alcohol usage to and from Washington, DC, on Thursday.

The company also increased the number of flight attendants on flights as a precaution. American Airlines also ensured police protection in order to avoid any threats during the flight.

United crew had also been moved from the hotels in riot hotspots for their own safety.
