You are probably doing something right if the woman who gave her name to the Billie Jean King Cup calls you "amazing".

Storm Sanders admitted to being humbled by the praise from one of the game's legends - but the words of her teammates following Australia's defeat to Switzerland in the final on Sunday suggested the great BJK was not wrong.

Sanders had a triumphant week in the world cup of women's tennis, winning five rubbers - including three singles matches against much higher-ranked opponents.

Yet perhaps her crowning glory came in the manner of her never-say-die defeat to world No.35 Jil Teichmann, a player who - according to the 202-place gulf in their rankings - Sanders had no right to challenge.

King, who watched the action unfold in Glasgow's Emirates Arena, presented the runners-up medals to the Australians and was seen enthusing to Sanders, "You were amazing".

Like everyone, the 78-year-old had been left enthralled by Sanders' efforts to keep battling in the three-set thriller after the Queenslander, already struggling physically with a taped adductor, needed treatment to an injured ankle and looked almost down and out.

But just as she has all week, the world No.10 doubles player demonstrated real guts as well as talent in the singles arena as she fought back to take the match into a nail-biting third set before finally losing after nearly two-and-a-half hours.

"It was amazing," the 28-year-old said of her experience of meeting the American great.

"Billie Jean King said some nice words to me at the ceremony, and also wanted just to congratulate me on my wedding on Saturday.

"She was more interested in my wedding, which was really, really nice."

Sanders admitted she needs some rest before she gets hitched to fiance Loughlin Hunter back home next week.

"I left everything out there today. I have literally nothing left in the tank right now," she said, still smiling as she has all week.

Of the injuries, she added: "Just a bit of everything, to be honest. Just fatigue and that's OK. It's the last day of the season. It's been a really long year for me, and it's all stuff that's manageable.

"That was my seventh match this week, and today was a long match and obviously a high-pressure environment. I'm a little bit spent today, but it was a lot of fun. I gave everything.

"It was so much fun and even though we didn't quite get the win today, I'm just so proud of our team."

Captain Alicia Molik reckoned her star performer had been "heroic" and predicted a great future for the soon-to-be 'Storm Hunter' next season as she tries to juggle her blossoming doubles career with her singles ambitions.

So, given her success on court and high praise from a tennis legend, was this the best week of Sanders' year?

"Well, second-best," she beamed. "After the wedding week."
