Want to surprise your best friend with a gift on his birthday, but unsure about his delivery address? Well, you don’t have to worry anymore, at least if you are an Amazon Prime customer. The e-commerce major has rolled out a new shopping feature (on mobile devices) that allows Amazon Prime members to purchase gifts for others without needing to know their home delivery address. Just knowing the recipient's email address or mobile phone number will be enough for sending them gifts.
Furthermore, you don’t have to worry even about the additional expenses of postage or gift wrapping. In short, Amazon’s new mobile shopping feature makes gifting convenient for shoppers. Considering the convenience the feature accords by obviating the need of a delivery address, other e-commerce firms are also expected to follow suit.

How Amazon’s new mobile shopping feature works
As earlier explained, the feature offers an alternative to entering a delivery address at checkout.
- In case you don’t have your friend’s home delivery address, a new option can be selected that says, “Let the recipient provide their address.” You can input the person’s email address or mobile phone number.
- Following this, the recipient will receive a gift message (on email or text) which would allow him to accept the gift.
- Thereafter, he will be required to enter the preferred delivery address from the Amazon account.
- Recipients will also have the option of exchanging the item for an Amazon gift card.
- They can then use the card to purchase something else—without having to notify the gift giver.
This new feature was rolled out to all Prime members in the US, shopping from their mobile devices on 4 October 2021.
Meanwhile, Amazon’s Black Friday 2021 deals went live on Monday this week. The company is offering big discounts across tech, toys, and gaming ahead of the Christmas month. The deal spans TVs, speakers, smart home tech, home appliances, robot vacuum cleaners and other items.
