Australia's newest airline Bonza has rolled out its initial route network to start its operations later this year, according to media reports.
The first carrier after Tiger Airways, which was launched almost one-and-a-half decades back, Bonza will target 25 routes, initially connecting 16 destinations across Australia.
How does Bonza plan to shake the aviation market?
Bonza plans to offer ultra-low-cost fares to major holiday spots and rural communities. According to a media report citing CEO Tim Jordan, Bonza's rates will be comparable to Jetstar's and approximately half the price of full-service airlines flying on most of the company's planned itineraries.
On an average, a one-hour flight from the Sunshine Coast to Rockhampton or Coffs Harbour would cost around AU$50 one way, whereas longer flights from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast cost between AU$75 and AU$100 one way.
Routes to be covered by Bonza
Bonza's first five aircraft will touch 25 routers, including Melbourne, Mildura, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba Wellcamp, Townsville Albury, Avalon, Bundaberg, Cairns, Coffs Harbour, Gladstone, Mackay, and the Whitsunday Coast.
Bonza will base its Boeing 737 Max aircraft at Sunshine Coast Airport, with Melbourne Airport serving as a secondary hub.
What's next?
Bonza, which is backed by US private investment firm 777 Partners, plans to launch a total of eight aircraft in the first year of its operations. One aircraft will be designated as a 'spare' permanently allowing the airline to respond to any technical faults or flight cancellations promptly.
Bonza also revealed some information about its upcoming business operations, including a completely paperless experience with a custom app for booking and discovering flights. Users of the app can also enter to win free flights and be the first to hear about specials and discounts.
