A man has been arrested at a Melbourne ATM while dressed in a wig, glasses and a face mask over an alleged interstate skimming racket that netted him more than $30,000.
The 43-year-old will face court on Wednesday after being charged with nine counts of obtaining a financial advantage where it's alleged he disguised himself by wearing different wigs and glasses to skim ATMs using cloned bank cards.
He was arrested at 6.30am on Tuesday at an ATM in Mount Waverley while wearing a disguise.
Detectives searched the man's Glen Waverley property, where they found 18 cloned bank cards with pin numbers written on them, a hire company vehicle and skimming equipment including device and card readers.
Officers also seized wigs, glasses, face marks and various clothing, which police allege the man used to disguise himself while using cloned cards to fraudulently withdraw at least $30,000.
Police became aware of a number of card skimming events in Victoria, NSW and South Australia in January, where offenders inserted devices into ATM's to obtain victim's bank card data, including card details and PIN numbers.
The cloned cards were then used at multiple ATMs throughout Victoria to access money belonging to the victims.
The man was taken into custody and will appear at Ringwood Magistrates Court later on Wednesday.
