The IOL HAT adds IO-Link® compatible to Raspberry Pi, alowing to integrate industrial smart sensors and other devices to Raspberry Pi IoT appliactions
MARKDORF, GERMANY, March 26, 2024 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Pinetek Networks started their campaign on CrowdSupply for the new IOL HAT, an extension for Raspberry Pi that enables easy integration of industrial sensors and other industrial devices. Developed as an add-on board (HAT) mainly for Raspberry Pi, the IOL HAT enables seamless data exchange with IO Link sensors, actuators, and other IO-Link devices for IoT applications. With the IOL HAT as a universal interface, the user can create applications like smart metering (by using of IO-Link current sensors), ruggedized environmental data acquisition (by using IO-Link temperature and humidity sensors), fluid level measurement (by using IO-Link level sensors), and many other applications.
"IO-Link is a standard with over 20,000 different smart devices on the market, mainly sensors," said Andreas Lau from Pinetek Networks. "The IOL HAT bridges the gap between the Raspberry Pi and these devices, offering a reliable digital interlink for fault-free data transfer, even in harsh environments or with cable lengths up to 20 meters. Due to standardization, IO-Link devices are cost-efficient and easy to integrate. With the IOL HAT, the user does not need to care about the communication protocol, the sensors and devices can be set up and used with just a few lines of code".
The IOL HAT includes the hardware module that provides a physical interface for smart devices through two IO-Link compatible ports, and a software stack for easy integration with applications in any programming language that can implement TCP sockets. Libraries and examples for Python and C/C++ that connect to the TCP socket will be provided. Two IOL HAT can be stacked, allowing users to connect four sensors or devices simultaneously.
Two versions of the IOL HAT will be available, one for connection with Raspberry Pi 3B, 4B, or 5 models through the 40-pin GPIO connector, and another for use with generic single board computers or the Raspberry Computing Module. Both versions offer the same set of functions, and they use the same software that provides communication to the hardware driver and an API as interface to the user application.
The project, including binaries, source code, and schematics, is hosted on GitHub, emphasizing the commitment to open-source development. Interested individuals can sign up on the product page to be notified about updates and the upcoming CrowdSupply project start: www.pinetek-networks.com/iol-hat
