She's the undisputed queen of rock and roll, whose highs and lows have been well-documented over the years, but some parts of Tina Turner's life remained untold - until now.
Australian audiences will soon get to learn new details of the iconic singer's fascinating life, including her tumultuous marriage to fellow musician Ike Turner.
A popular production about her life - The Tina Turner Musical - is launching in Sydney this May following its success on Broadway and in London.
"We don't know the depths of [her story] and I think that's really special for us because we love Tina so much," resident director Leah Howard told AAP.
"This will just allow us to hold more on to who she really is and know more about her in this country. Audiences will take away so much new about this story."
As one of the producers, US-born Turner, 83, was heavily involved in the development of the musical, which documents her 50-year career and her journey to breaking barriers around age, gender and race.
Howard said while Turner is a big fan of the production, which scored 37 award nominations including a Tony, she was hesitant at first.
"There was a moment in time where it was a hard thing for her to want to tell this story in this format because of having to go through that storytelling all over again," Howard said.
"You can imagine someone having to tell their life story and having to relive moments that they probably never want to relive again."
Australian-Zimbabwean actress and star of The Lion King musical Ruva Ngwenya, landed the dream role of Turner while acclaimed singer Tim Omaji portrays her former husband Ike.
The show features Turner's iconic hits and kicks off at Theatre Royal Sydney in May.
