Summary

  • Shippit, a multinational logistics business, offers the complete coordination of online parcels, partnered with Australian Post and hundreds of online retailers.
  • The company reported an all-time high demand in the last 12 months, with plans to further expand to Indonesia and the Philippines.

Australians love to shop online. It is fast, easy, and offers a wide variety of products from across the globe. For that reason, Aussies take their shipping services seriously, as it could take a lot of kilometres before the parcel reaches the household.

Another thing that is immensely important when shopping online is an efficient track and trace service. Waiting for a package can cause anxiety, especially if the product is pricey.

Two Australians, who had a finger on the pulse of the customers and understood the problems that could crop up during deliveries, came up with a new business to ease the postie anxiety away – Shippit.

What is Shippit?

Initially, Shippit was founded in 2014 as a rival company to Australia Post. The delivery company coordinates deliveries with more than 300 stores.

Shippit allows online retailers to provide quick delivery to the customer, even after the online business has called it a day.

An important partnership

However, the situation changed in 2016, and now Shippit works together with Australia Post, providing its customers with real-time tracking of any AP parcel, at an even more affordable expense.

The collaboration involves more areas in regional Australia, as well as getting notified via an SMS or e-mail for all AP deliveries. If customers have a change of mind, they can reroute or even postpone their AP package deliveries via Shippit.

Shippit creators realised that 90 per cent of all deliveries go through the public system (Australia Post), so they have signed a deal with the post provider to offer a better service to Shippit customers.

Robert Hango-Zada, the co-founder of Shippit, added that the agreement with Australia Post offers more transparency and security to customers that use Shippit for parcel deliveries.

Customers can now follow their parcels and are notified of the exact moment when Australia Post processes the package. Shippit estimates the delivery date and sends a notification when the box is on board for transport. Once the delivery is finalised, users can rate the overall experience.

Intercontinental expansion

However, Shippit has not settled for offering its services to Australians only. Having made its mark in Australia, Shippit has now set its eyes beyond the continent.

Earlier this week, the company announced an exciting news about expanding to Southeast Asia, settling a A$30 million deal with Tiger Global.

Consequently, Shippit is expected to hire more staff – 100 people will be employed in total, 50 of which will be IT developers.

The logistics platform now deals with more than five million deliveries a month on the continent and has partnerships with Sephora, Temple & Webster, Target, Big W, among others. Shippit already operates in Singapore and Malaysia, so Southeast Asia is the next step.

Co-CEO and co-founder William On said that Shippit would only grow from the current deal, as Asia will be a dominant market for the e-commerce industry within the next five years.

The creator duo, Rob Hango-Zada and William On, also agree on plans to spread Shippit to Indonesia and the Philippines in the foreseeable future.
