General Motors is all set to hit the EV market once again with its recent launch of Hummer EV – a progeny of gas-guzzling military-style SUV that the Company acquired in 1998. General Motors would now bring-in a new prototype of the beast model christened as “super truck” with massive horsepower and other unique features.

The Detroit-based carmaker confirmed the launch of its “super truck”- calling it the key to zero-emissions future after releasing three online teaser videos featuring NBA star LeBron James.

  • The new Hummer EV would feature 1,000 horsepower, 11,500 pound-feet of torque, and would be capable of 0 to 60 miles per hour dash in 3 seconds. The Super Truck will be going into production during the fall of 2021.
  • The sales of the “super truck” will start by the end of next year; however, GMC is yet to disclose the price.
  • The teaser video released by GMC details the specifications of the EV model, including its unique features such as the drive assistance to offer hand-free driving and Ultium batteries for longer range – estimated to be over 350 miles.

Moreover, the new EV model would feature 800 volts DC fast charging to 350 kilowatts, providing a charge for 100 miles in 10 minutes.

  • Things in the new Hummer EV get more revolutionary when the model is off the pavement with features like higher ground clearance, customisable drive mode, and the one of its kind crabwalk feature – allowing the vehicle to drive diagonally!

GMC’s “super truck” would now go against the “Cybertruck” of Tesla

The sale of the all-new Hummer EV is planned for a year earlier than Tesla’s Cybertruck, and apart from the vehicle space, GM would also compete with the EV giant in the battery space with its propriety Ultium batteries pitted against the million-mile batteries from Tesla.

GMC also pointed towards the future with Mark Reuss (President General Motors) mentioning that GMC Hummer EV won’t be the first and the last entry in the space.

The GMC President suggested that the Company would now offer multiple models with multiple variants, for multiple customers – calling it a vehicle and package for everyone.

Adding to the release speech, Mark Reuss also suggested that the Company is confident that its strategy of combining advanced technology, flexibility, speed, and scale is unparalleled in the industry.
