The daughter of former ABC journalist Emma Alberici has appeared in court over an alleged domestic violence incident between the pair over Christmas.

Allegra McCauley appeared at Sydney's Waverley Local Court on Thursday over a single property damage charge and a police application for an apprehended violence order to protect Ms Alberici.

According to court documents, the 18-year-old is accused of damaging skirting around a door at Ms Alberici's eastern suburbs home, during an alleged dispute on December 29.

McCauley intends to contest the charge and the AVO application, her lawyer told the court on Thursday.

A hearing was set for December 21, 2023.

That was the earliest available hearing, the magistrate said.

Until then, McCauley will remain on bail and an interim AVO will be in place.

Ms Alberici was the face of the ABC's Lateline program for five years before the program was axed in 2017 as part of a restructuring by the broadcaster.

In 2018, as ABC's chief economics correspondent, the award-winning journalist found herself in hot water over articles she wrote relating to company tax cuts proposed by the then coalition government.

Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull slammed Ms Alberici's reporting during a speech in parliament, calling it "one of the most confused and poorly researched articles I've seen on this topic".

The ABC removed a news story and analysis piece written by Ms Alberici, claiming they did not meet editorial standards for impartiality.

At the time, some members of the media accused the broadcaster of buckling to government pressure, despite both pieces being edited and republished a week later.

Ms Alberici left the ABC in 2020 after receiving an agreed redundancy payout.

She is now a principal consultant at headhunting firm Derwent.
